There is just one simple past tense in English language. However, there are two different
simple past tenses (pretéritos) in Spanish language which are called “pretérito indefinido”
and “pretérito imperfecto”.
Identify “Pretérito imperfecto” by replacing the past verb with was + -ing form or used to +
base form. If it gives no sense to the sentence, then it belongs to “pretérito indefinido”.
