For regular verbs
Para formar el pasado simple con verbos regulares,solo debemos
añadir la terminación –ed, -d o -ied, según corresponda.

1. In both languages there are conventional rules to make past
forms of regular verbs.

2. In both languages there are no fixed rules to make past forms of


irregular verbs. Linguists might have tried to group them according
to some patterns but just some verbs fit, not even many of them.
So if we want to learn them, we’d better try memorizing.

There is just one simple past tense in English language. However, there are two different
simple past tenses (pretéritos) in Spanish language which are called “pretérito indefinido”
and “pretérito imperfecto”.

Identify “Pretérito imperfecto” by replacing the past verb with was + -ing form or used to +
base form. If it gives no sense to the sentence, then it belongs to “pretérito indefinido”.
