ADVENTURE TOURISM IN

EMPLOYABILITY
OPPORTUNITIES

Introduction
• Adventure travel is one of the fastest growing but least understood forms of
international tourism. Nepal is one among the best destinations in the world
for adventure tourism which offers an excess of outdoor activities from
Paragliding near the mountains to waiting for the Bengal tiger in the dense
forest of Chitwan. Recently there are lots of things that have been explored
like Ski-Mountaineering, Sky-Dive, Mountain Bike and Marathon which have
made Nepal an adventure hub around the world.
Introduction
• “Adventure Tourism” may represent distinct kinds of experience and infinite
range of tourism situations but the important thing to remember is that it
creates special sense of excitement and adventure memories to a traveler.
The statistics show that the highest number of tourists that travelled Nepal
in the year 2016 were with the purpose of Holiday and pleasure with 70% of
them along with 10% for trekking and mountaineering. Beside them 12%
travelled for religious, 3% official, 3% business and 2% of them with
conference reasons. Though small geographically, the country is very rich in
multitudes of terrain and landscape, facilitating some of the best adventure
sports to take place. It is estimated that more than 60 percent of the
international tourists visiting the country every year come here for
adventurous activities.
Problem Statement
The Human capital is crucial for adventure tourism sector due to direct connection with adventure
tourists which requires extreme set of hard and soft skills. Index of global competitiveness measured by
World Economy Forum indicates that intellectual capital impact level to country competitiveness
is 58 - 70 %. This level indicates that influence of human capital (education, skills, and
abilities), organization and technologies is dominant, so it represents the most important parametres
that determine competitive position of countries and companies. Countries that invest in education have
higher GDP, which also implies that education development and expertise are crucial in
economy. ( Albijanić, M., 2011.30).
In this context the paper presents the required skills and gap of human capital in the potential adventure
tourism sector of Nepal. Human resource constraints, such as low levels of education and literacy, and
deficiencies in vocational education and skills training reduce private sector capacity.
Objectives
• To understand the impact of adventure tourism of Nepal in employment opportunities
• To find out possible areas of improvements to enhance employment opportunities in Adventure
Tourism
Research Questions

The focus of this research is broadly answering the question, “What are the
perceived skills required to be in the adventure tourism in Nepal?”
  i. What are the most important required skills for employment opportunities
in the adventure tourism?
 ii.  What are the impacts of adventure tourism in Nepal?
 iii. What are the recommendations and suggestions for employment
opportunities in Adventure Tourism?
Limitations of Research
All the research come with limitations:
some limitations which are presented below:
 i.    Sample size may not be sufficient enough to represent very large population of variables under
study and generalize the findings to the industry.
ii.    The sample has been drawn with non probability sampling therefore the findings drawn from the
study cannot be generalized to the population of the study
iii.  There can also be other dimensions of perceived skills set rather than used in this research; so,
further research can be conducted to measure those dimension.
 iv.  Limited time frame as it is an academic research; research is done only in surface without covering
much detail aspects of the perceived skills set required in the adventure touris
  v. The information assortment depended on the assessment of the respondents and it might change
with time
 vi. Other factors like economy, technologies, government policies etc are not included in this study.
Significance of the study
The findings of this study will be of importance to the educational institutes in the
tourism, corporations who considers employees as an important factor for the
success of the organization. They will basically understand the significance of
quality and skilled human resources and its impact on the employee performance
and organization. This research also holds a significant value to the human
resource department, human resource managing agencies that develop strategy
for employee motivation and plans for their clients in the adventure tourism.
Through the findings of this research they can understand the importance of
skilled human resource as one of the success factor. Similarly, this research is also
significant for future researcher as it assists future researcher who are researching
on the same study area by providing basic guidelines and the discoveries likewise
fill in as reference material for future analysts doing comparative investigations.
Literature Review
This research is to study the impact of Adventure Tourism in creating job opportunities which is
based upon multiple key papers and Adventure Travel Guide Qualifications and Performance
Standard – IV. Adventure Travel Guiding Core Competencies from Adventure Travel Trade
Associations. 
(Randell, 2020) "Adventure travel" is defined by the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) as
"exploration or travel with a perceived (or possibly actual) risk, and potentially needing specialized
skills and physical exertions." Consider scuba diving in Honduras, skiing in Argentina, glacier
gazing in Greenland, bear watching in Alaska, rafting in the Pacific Northwest, or any other
tourism activity that includes physical exertion or natural engagement. As a result, adventure
destinations and tour companies rely on healthy ecosystems and wildlife to thrive. As a result,
climate change is a paradoxical situation in which industry both contributes to and suffers from it,
necessitating immediate action. According to a recent study, the environmental impact of
tourism, which includes shopping, transportation, and food, accounts for 8% of world emissions
each year. At the moment, this equates to 4.5 billion metric tons of CO2. According to the same
analysis, assuming tourism continues to expand. 
Methodology
• Data Collection Tool – Structured Interview Questions
• Respondents – Management team and employees of Dalle Restaurants
• Sample size is determined using Non Probability sampling
• Sample Size – more than 10 ( depending upon the availability )
• Data Collection Method – Structured Interview Questions
• Respondents – Adventure Travelers, Students, the Management team of
Adventure Companies
• Sampling Techniques – Non Probability Sampling
Primary Data

Primary data will be organized for the specific purpose of addressing the
problem on hand. The tools for primary data will be structured interview
questions either by digital or personal medium. Structured questions can be
efficient data collection mechanism of what and how to measure the selected
variables. Those questions will be administered personally to the respondents.
It will have open as well as close ended questions following structured
patterns.
Secondary Data

Secondary data refer to information gathered by other party that has already


conducted a previous study. It helps researchers to get better understand
and define the problems. Secondary data is that data which is collected
from existing journals, reports and statistics from private and public
institutions. For this specific study the collection of secondary data will be
done primarily from journals already available on this topic.
Data Collection Procedure

The process of evaluating data using analytical and logical reasoning to


examine each component of the data provided. Data from various sources is
gathered, reviewed,and then analyzed to form some sort of finding or
conclusion. Since the data are collected from the means of primary and
secondary data. With the help of primary data, outcome will be analyzed
and concluded from structured questionnaire. With the help of different
published in websites, newspapers, magazines, journals, articles experts
viewpoints are the sources of secondary data.
Expected Outcome

From this research, it is expected to find out the perceived set of required skills
to be in the adventure tourism industry. Other major outcomes are a number
of suggestions/recommendations and areas of improvement from experts to
enhance the performance of human capital and their skills in adventure
tourism and then finally the study’s major conclusions are drawn.
