OSH Objectives
 OSH should aim at:
 The promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical
(Workstation), mental (emotion, feeling, stress) and social well-
being (relationship among staff) of workers in all occupations.
 The prevention amongst workers of departures from health caused
by their working conditions (Construction-asbestos-lung-
Tuberculosis).
 The protection of workers in their employment from risks resulting
from factors adverse to health (Factory-Covid 19).
 The placing and maintenance of the worker in an occupational
environment adapted to his physiological (relating to physiology, an
organism's healthy, bacteria) and psychological (mind and behavior,
biological influences (maturity), social pressures, and environmental
factors that affect how people think, act, and feel. capabilities.

Prominent Reason
Moral
An employee should not have to risk injury at work, nor should
others associated with the work environment
(The Bright Sparklers Fireworks fire occurred in Sungai Buloh, Selangor, Malaysia on 7 May 1991.[1][2] The Bright Sparklers Fireworks
Factory in Sungai Buloh, Selangor caught fire and caused a huge explosion.[1][2] Twenty six people were killed and over a hundred
people were injured in the disaster.[2] The explosion was strong enough to rip the roofs of some local houses, and ended up damaging

over 200 residential properties.[3] .

Economic
Many governments realize that poor occupational safety and health
performance results in cost to state.
KUALA LUMPUR: Individuals who violate the standard operating procedures (SOPs) stipulated for the prevention and control of the Covid-19
pandemic can be fined up to RM10,000 beginning March 11.

Legal
It is accepted that without the extra “encouragement” of potential
regulatory action or litigation, many organizations would not act
upon their implied moral obligations

Interaction with Other disciplines
 Occupational Medicine (Occupational
medicine (also known as “occupational health”) is focused on the treatment of work-related
injuries and illnesses. Physicians trained in occupational medicine diagnose and treat work-related injuries much
more effectively than most primary care physicians.

 Occupational Hygiene (Occupational Hygiene is the discipline of

anticipating, recognising, evaluating and controlling health hazards in the working environment with the objective

of protecting worker health and well-being and safeguarding the community at large) .
 Safety Engineering (Safety engineering is a field of engineering that deals with
accident prevention, reducing the risks associated with human error, and deriving safety benefits from engineered
systems and designs)

 Ergonomics (Ergonomics can roughly be defined as the study of people in their working
environment. More specifically, an ergonomist (pronounced like economist) designs or modifies the work to fit the
worker, not the other way around. The goal is to eliminate discomfort and risk of injury due to work).

 Toxicology (Occupational toxicology is the application of the principles and methodology of
