study examples.

- Use examples from your MYP studies

- You may include pictures

(Remember the feedback from your AssessPrep mock exam - act on the EBI feedback)
News articles / Blog posts
The inverted pyramid The Hourglass approach

Summarise the most important parts

of the article (facts in descending
order)

This is where you change the

narrative (telling the story, include
witness statements etc)

Continue the story with the most

important remaining facts 1st. Then
summarise the whole thing as a
separate conclusion

As well as the structure, also ensure:

● You add a title that connects the reader to the main message.
● You are clear on the purpose of your article (to inform/convey an opinion/to highlight a failure or
achievement etc.
● You use appropriate language techniques.
● The sections of your article are clearly divided and that your ideas flow logically through the piece.
● You include relevant pictures/diagrams/graphs to support your message.
Blog posts

Look carefully at the components of a Blog Post, they are

very similar to a news article.

Compare the layout here with the information on slide 5.

Using language techniques beyond your English lessons
When planning your extended responses you need to consider what language
devices and techniques you will use. The following slides are a reminder of
language styles, devices and techniques you use all the time in English.
