Introduction
Hookworms are nematode parasites that
usually get transmitted through infested soil.
Two species are mainly responsible for
human infections, Ancylostoma duodenale
and Necator americanus.

they can cause chronic infection of the

intestinal tract, suck their host blood, leading
to iron deficiency anemia in most cases.

 Etiology

Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus are the principal

species that infect human. Yet, there are some species that infect animal,
such as:

• A.ceylanicum -> highest zoonotic infection in Asia

• A.caninum -> a dog hookworm (cause enteritis and ileitis)

• A.braziliense -> cause cutaneous larva migrans
