MEANING OF LEAVES
The leaf is one of the plant organs that grows from the stem, generally
green (contains chlorophyll) and the main function of the leaf is to
capture energy from sunlight through photosynthesis.
Compound Leaves

Leaf compound leaves that are divided into two or many leaf
children.

What are the characteristics of compound leaves (folium

compositum) ???
Concept of Compound Leaves

BASED ON THE ARRANGEMENT OF CHILDREN LEAVES ON COMPOUND LEAF

STALKS CONSIST OF

1. Compound leaves squint (pinnatus)

2. Compound leaves (palmatus)
3. Compound leaves wake up feet (pedatus)
4. Mixed compound leaves (digitato pinnatus),

Ex: rasberi leaves.
Leaf phyllotaxis

What is phyllotaxis (phyllotaxis) mean?

The stem nodes (nodes), are the part of the stem or branch of the stem where the leaves
NODUS
sit. Although sometimes the books are not clearly visible on the stem, the place where
the leaves sit is still called the books and the distance between the 2 books is also called
the segment.

Leaf phyllotaxis
The rules regarding leaf layout are called leaf layouts.

To determine the layout of the leaves on the stem, first

determine the number of leaves contained in the possible
books:
-There is 1 leaf in each NODUS
-There are 2 leaves opposite each other in each NODUS
-There are more than 2 leaves on each NODUS.
In each NODUS there is only 1 leaf, so the layout of the leaves is called scattered (folia sparsa).
Even though it is called scattered, if it is examined, it turns out that there are things that are regular
in nature.

Leaves with such an arrangement are called rosettes (rosula). Rosettes are divided into 2:

1. Root Rosette,
Leaf phyllotaxis
2. Stem rosette
If the leaves are dense and crowded at the end of the stem. For example in coconut trees (Cocos nucifera
L.) and other types of palms.
2. Two Leaves On Each NODUS

Two leaves on each of the books are opposite (separated by a distance of 1800). In the next
stem nodes usually the two leaves form a cross with 2 leaves below. called opposite -
crossed (folia opposita or folia decussata), for example in Noni (Morinda citrifolia L.),
Leaf phyllotaxis
3. More Than Two Leaves On Each Book
Such a layout is called rocky (folia verticillata), for example on the Pulai tree (Alstonia scholaris
R.Br.).

In plants with opposite and rocky leaf layouts, the formula for the leaves cannot be determined, but
also in leaf seating, one can notice the presence of orthostics which connects the leaves that are
perpendicular to each other.
Specialized Leaf
Specialized leaves are leaves that have a special shape with respect to
their function.
- Protective Leaf
- Sensitive Leaf.
- Supporting Leaf .
- Leaves with Fascination.
- Leaves for Propagation.
- Leaves for Water Storage.
- Leaf Scales.
