What is Stress?
 Stress is the feeling of being under too much mental or emotional
pressure.
 Stress can affect how you feel, think, behave and how your body
works. In fact common signs of stress include sleeping problems,
sweating, loss of appetite and difficulty concentrating.
INTRODUCTION

 Stress is a dynamic condition in which an individual is


confronted with opportunity, demand, or resource related
to what the individual desires and for which the outcome
is perceived to be both uncertain and important.
 Stress can be good and bad.
 Stress is associated with demands and resources.
Consequences of Stress Management

Symptoms can be subsumed in three general categories

Physiological symptoms

Psychological symptoms

Behavioral symptoms

 Stress could create changes in metabolism


 Increase heart rates
 Breathing rates
 Increase blood pressure
 Headaches
 Induce heart attack
Psychological Symptoms

 Stress can cause dissatisfaction


 Job dissatisfaction is “ the simplest and most obvious
psychological effect
 Less control people have over their work, greater the
stress
Behavioral Symptoms

Behavior related stress symptoms include change in :


 Productivity and turnover
 Eating habits
 Increased consumption of alcohol
 Sleep disorders
 Most widely used pattern to studied stress-performance
relationship is “ INVERTED U RELATIONSHIP”
