Contextualization
The educational process of relating the curriculum
to a particular setting, situation or area of application.

Teaching students the content in a context, i.e.,


embedding the concepts in meaningful activities and in a
scenario that makes sense to the students to enhance
their understanding and to make the concepts more
relatable.

Explicit Teaching:

Explicit Teaching

• Involves directing student attention toward specific


learning in a highly structured environment.
• It is teaching that is focused on producing specific
learning outcomes. Topics and contents are broken down
into small parts and taught individually.
• It involves explanation, demonstration and practice.
Modelling
The teacher models the new skill or concept skill.
Visual scaffolds are used to support comprehension
and understanding of tasks and concepts.
Guided Practice
Teacher and students practice the task together.
The gradual release of responsibility to the
student begins here. This step gives students a
deeper level of understanding of the new skill or
concept.
Independent Practice
Students demonstrate their initial understanding of the
new concept or skill. This step is an opportunity to
practice what they have learned, working towards
mastery.
