 In the upgrading countries accident is the major cause of death. If we talk
about dangerous roads in the world then all of them are mountain roads and
curve roads.

 The intensity of the deaths are more in curved roads.

 In the mountain roads there will be narrow roads with tight curves. In such
kinds of situations the driver of a vehicle cannot see vehicles coming from
other side.

 Because of this problem thousands of people lose their lives each year. while
we are talking about mountain roads here other side might be lead to a cliff.

 The solution for this problem is alerting driver about the vehicle coming from
other side. One of the solution is proposed in this project.

Department of Electrical Engineering 3

We can alert driver by placing ultrasonic sensor in one side of the road before the curve
and keeping LED light other side of the curve, so that if vehicle comes from one end of
the curve sensor will sense the vehicle and LED light glows at the opposite side as Red.

By looking at the Red LED light driver can become alert and can slow down the speed
of the vehicle.

And still if an accident occurs we can save the life of victim by giving medical
assistance immediately.

This can increase the survival chances of victim. but this can happen only when we
know the exact location of accidental place.

This project presents an inexpensive but intelligent framework that can identify and
report an accident to the family member.

If in case accident occurs, button will get pressed and it will send message to the family
members using GSM module and send location of the accidental place using GPS
module.

 The mountain roads have numerous turns and blind spots.
 These spots are so dangerous at times that they cause accidents if not
manoeuvred properly.
 Our system is such a system which will be beneficial in roads like these and
will also reduce the number of accidents that occur often.
 Here we are considering hairpin curves where the driver of a vehicle has no
idea whether there is any other vehicle coming from the other side or not.
 Thus, our system when fixed at these dangerous curves will have proximity
sensors, signals (RGB LED) and a counter, to aid the drivers.
 The proximity sensor senses the vehicles, and the counter keeps the count of
vehicles present in that particular turn, coming from a particular direction.
Based on the data of the counter, the signal will change its colour.
 Also our system provides tracking of vehicle using GPS system and helps in
accident detection and position tracking.

 The system is installed at the curves and bends. The proximity sensor senses
the distance of a vehicle approaching or moving away from it.
 Based on its input from the proximity sensor, the counter and the signal will
change their respective counts and colour to indicate the driver.
 Now, for instance, we consider that five vehicles are coming down the hill,
and two vehicles are moving up. The proximity sensor at the curve while
going up the hill senses that two cars are approaching towards it, as a result,
the counter on the other side shows a count of 2.
 On the other side of the curve, the other proximity sensor senses that five
cars are coming towards it so the counter situated on the other side, displays
5. And the signals on both the sides have red signal, thus the drivers can be
cautious and can slow down, and can safely manoeuvre.
 As the vehicles go away from the sensor, the display will change and become
zero and signal will become green. When there is only one car on either of
the sides, the signal is green and the driver gets to know that there is no
vehicle on the other side.

Advantages
 Avoid accidents in curve roads mountains
roads and hill roads.
 Saves thousands of lives
 Easily implementable to the existing roads.
 Fully automated (No person is required to

operate).
 Installation cost is very less.
 ehicle monitoring systems can be

implemented easily.

 Arrangements to protect the sensor from
being damaged in critical places.
 Decrease the size of unit so that it occupies

small place and easily kept in narrow roads.

 Implementing the system to detect number of

vehicles and velocity of vehicle.

Conclusion
The motive of this project is to decrease the number of
accidents in curve roads. This is done by alerting the driver by
means of LED light which glows when vehicle comes from the
other side of the curve. The vehicle is detected by the help of
Ultrasonic sensor which is interfaced to the microcontroller
Arduino UNO. and Still if accident occurs then alerting family
member by sending message and location of the accidental
place using GSM module, GPS module and Arduino Uno. By this
we can save thousands of lives in the curve roads.
