INTRODUCTION

• Clothing is a one of the necessities that we use on daily basis in life.


• Clothing is Fiber and Textile material worn on body.
• The wearing of clothing is mostly restriction to human beings and is a
feature of nearly all human societies.
• The amount and type of clothing worn depend on physical, social and
geographic consideration.
IMPORTANCE OF CLOTHING

• A primary function of clothing is to improve the comfort of the wearer. In hot


climates, Clothing provide protection from sunburn or wind damage, while in
cold climates it’s thermal insulation are generally more protected.
• It protects the wearer from the elements, rough surfaces, sharp stones, rash-
causing plants, insect bites, splinters, thorns and prickles by providing a barrier
between the skin and the environment.
• Further, they can provide a hygienic barrier, Keeping infectious and toxic
material away from your body
ORIGIN AND HISTORY OF CLOTHING

• Scientists have never agreed on when humans began wearing clothes and
estimates submitted by various experts have ranged greatly from 3 million to
40,000 years ago.
• Ralf Kittler, Manfred Kayser, and Mark Stoneking, anthropologists at the Max
Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, conducted a genetic analysis of
human body lice that suggests clothing originated around 170,000 years ago.
• According to anthropologists and archaeologists, the earliest clothing likely
consisted of fur, leather, leaves, or grass that was draped, wrapped, or tied
around the body.
CULTURAL ASPECT OF CLOTHING

• In most cultures, gender differentiation of clothing is considered appropriate.


The differences are in styles, colors, fabrics, and types.
• In contemporay Western societies, skirts, dresses, and high-heeled shoes are
usually seen as women’s clothing, while neckties usually are seen as men’s
clothing.
• In some cultures, sumptuary laws regulate what men and women are required
to wear. Islam requires women to wear certain forms of attire,usually hijab.
• In some societies, clothing may be used to indicate rank or status.
RELIGIOUS ASPECTS OF CLOTHING

• Some religious clothing might be considered a special case of occupational


clothing. Sometimes it is worn only during the performance of religious
ceremonies.
• However, it also may be worn every day as a marker for special religious
status. For example, Jains and Muslim men wear unstitched cloth pieces when
performing religious ceremonies.
• In some religions such as Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Jainism the
cleanliness of religious dresses is of paramount importance and is considered to
indicate purity.

CONCLUSION

• It is clear that a culture influence a lot on the clothing of the person. Clothing is
a tool by which a person expresses his individuality of culture and his social
status in society. It helps to make him believe that he belongs to a certain
group.
• The dressing sense in a particular culture gives a sense of superiority or
inferiority and act as a medium of self expression.
• Fabric and clothing have evolved from early civilization to current times.
