HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Scholars hold the view that religion is universal and can be found in
all known contemporary societies (Ember & Ember 1997). Even the
most fundamental of belief systems can be seen to a greater or lesser
degree in all religions (Hopfe, 1983). Various
theories have been formulated to explain the origin of
religion.
