Describe how British was able to take control


of other countries and the affects of such
control.

What is British
Empire?
+ British empire is a group of countries that
were controlled by Great Britain. It include
Britain” the mother country”, and other
territories, colonies. They are both ruled by
Britain. And in the 16th century, Britain
started to establish overseas colonies.
Trades
+ The defeat of French in Waterloo gave Britain a chance in
trade. They own the North Atlantic, it is the key to give British
power can dominance the world.
+ When the routes are opened, the merchants in British also
involved. During the 19th century, Britain imported many
products from all over the world like wool, wheat, sugar, tea,
butter, cotton,… When their finance is strong, they started to
invest into military.
Army.
+ During the 19th century, Britain consolidated its colonial empire,
the army grew in size and developed as an effective fighting
force. Because the WW1 came, British invest to train their army
to be professional.
Industrialization
+ Industrialization is one important part in the growth of Britain. A
higher population, the economic grow fast, and national
consciousness. They led Britain to take a huge amount of land
over the globe.
Effect of British to India
+ When Indian contact with British, they are learned that the
changes in social and religion is a first condition to help the
country grow. And the East India Company was a trading
concern. When the Industrial revolution began the
manufacturing class became more powerful.
Effect of British empire to Afica
+ It increased the distance between African chiefs and their
people. It changed African economies and made them
dependent on trade with Britain. They brought new
development of roads and railways.
