Introduction to Bachelor of

Science in Mathematics
Meaning

• Bachelor of Science in Mathematics is three year full time course focused on the
study of the principles and theories of mathematics which are intended at studying
quantity, structure, space, and change.

• The nature of study involves application of theories to seek patterns, formulate new
conjectures, and establish a logical conclusion by rigorous deductions from
appropriately chosen axioms and definitions.

• Mathematics is the backbone of every field of Science; Mathematical conclusions

are widely used in all fields of Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Astronomy,
Environmental challenges, Entertainment Industry(Especially animations) and of
late has been gaining increasing importance in Medical Science and fields of
Biology
Education

• Passed Class12(Science) or Equivalent from a recognised

University
• Compulsory Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics
•  Some Universities conduct an entrance test
Course Description:
Duration : 3 Years
Depending on the level of complexity the study of
subjects is distributed over semesters. Below are some of
the subjects studied as part of the course:

Options after the course:
• Employment
 Across transport and logistics industries mathematicians rigorously work out solutions to
optimize scheduling to reduce costs. Manufacturing Companies look at mathematicians to
chalk out solutions pertaining Production planning and forecasting, Optimising supply chain
solutions, working out the viability of production facilities and aligning it with the
organisations projected road map.

 Financial institutions and Insurance firms entirely depend on round the clock calculations
taking into consideration global movement of stock, economy, natural, political, regulatory
policies and social factors. Tremendous calculations go into working out accurate rates of
interests, dividends, premiums, Risk and Trade Offs etc to keep the industry at par and
competetive, Needless to say the industry thrives on the principles of mathematics.

 Research Laboratories look at mathematicians to conduct simulations and estimations such as:
working out detailed plans for clinical trials
test performance, safety, and ergonomics, while at the same time lowering the cost of
construction and prototype testing
computational simulations to show sufficient details to capture the effects of the chemicals
.
 Enviromental projects for mathematicians include they study of Viability of alternate fuels,
assesment of automotive systems to make them more efficient and reduce emissions, climate
modeling at the global, regional, and local levels reduce uncertainties regarding long-term
climate change, provide input for the formulation of energy and environmental policy
disease spread in populated areas in the event of a bioterrorism

 In Medical and healthcare industry Pharmaceutical companies need to search a large databases
to discover patterns to draw parallels with existing research outputs and discover emergin
trends
To study brain signals  to nerves and muscles which helps in designing mechanical
replacements to organs.

 Regulatory and Preventive Government agencies

Mathematically modelling the spread of natural disasters such as floods, forest fires, impact
and scale of climate changes etc
