Solution :
                1 Centistoke =4.08 (Redwood l seconds)

7. For A given fuel sample carbon residue experiment is performed
initially, weight for fuel sample along with sample bottle is 12.2 gm
and after experiment weighing again value comes 9.8gm (sample
bottle weight 9.5gm) find out % of carbon residue for a given sample.

Solution :-
                            % carbon residue = (9.8-9.5)*100/(12.2-9.5)
                                    %carbon residue = 11.11
8.For a given fuel sample its composition is given as follows-
                    Paraffin – 70, naphthene – 25.8, aromatic – 4.2.
Using this data calculate smoke point for given fuel sample.

Solution –
                                                      X = (100)/(0.61Xp+3.392Xn+135.18Xa)

                                                      X= (100)/(0.61*0.70+3.392*0.258+135.18*0.042)

                                                     X = 14.33

                            smoke point = 1.65*0.0112*X2 – 8.7

                          smoke point = 17.22mm
9. If the viscosity index of fuel oil 0.2 centipoise/o  C then find the
viscosity at 25 o  C   .

Solution –
                                     dμ/dt = 0.2

                                             ʃ dμ =ʃ 0.2dt

                                            μ = 5 centipoise
10.Estimate the % of hydrogen in the fuel if its smoke point is 20mm.
Solution :

            Given, smoke point = 20 mm

            And , using estimation relation
                                       % of hydrogen = 12.99 + 0.04(Smoke Point)
            And , by putting values we get-
                                        % of hydrogen = 12.99 +0.04(20) = 13.79%
11.The reservoir rock containing petroleum has

• (A) Low porosity
• (B) High permeability
• (C) High porosity
• (D) Both (b) and (c)

                                                                           Answer: Option D
12. Smoke point of a good burning kerosene may be around __________ mm.

                                                                                      Answer Option C
16. What will be the octane number if given petrol sample contain
mixture of 85% of iso octane and 15% of n-heptane?

Solution-
                     According to definition octane number is   % by volume of
iso octane  of a given fuel in a mixture of iso octane and n-heptane.
So,
                           octane number = % by volume of iso octane
                           octane number = 85
17.Calculate the fire point of fuel oil if its flash point is 55.5o C .

Solution -
   we know that-
                                            fire point = flash point + 5o C
                           So,            fire point  = 60.5o  C
18.If fuel having NCV of 450 KJ/Kg and moisture content is negligible ,
then what will be its GCV?

Solution –
         generally,
                            GCV = NCV+ energy assosiated with moisture content
            but according to question , there is negligible moisture
             so ,
                                          GCV = NCV
                                          GCV = 450 KJ/Kg
19. If the cetane number of given diesel sample is 78 and
specific gravity in o API is 40.5 then what will be the aniline point?

Solution –
                     Cetane number = 0.72(diesel index)+10
                            diesel index = 94.44
                            diesel index = (A.P.*o API) /100
                             then ,
                                          A.P. = 233.18 o  F
20. What will be the smoke point if the smoking tendency of Kerosene
is 21.33 mm-1 ?

Solution :-

                               smoking tendency = 320/h
                                                              h = 320/21.33
                                                              h = 15.0023 mm
