Logistics costs are an important factor that affects the
competitiveness of nations and firms. To determine the
efficiency of the logistics system, total logistics costs need to be
measured in relation to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which is
widely accepted as the barometer to gauge the rate of growth in
the economy. In the developed world, logistics costs on average
account for 10-15 per cent of the final cost of the finished
production.
