Introduction of
Project
The development of technology allows introducing
more advanced solutions in everyday life

This makes work less exhausting for employees, and

also increases the work safety.

Vision based system are becoming more popular and

are more widely used in different applications. .
These systems can be used in industry , Appearance of the first signs of a fatigue
transportation and in the end-user can become very dangerous, especially
complex products such as cars . for such professions like drivers.

Fatigue is such a psychophysical condition One of the technical possibilities to

of a man, which does not allow for a full implement driver drowsiness detection is
concentration to use the vision based approach.

Aims &Objectives
The main aims of the project were to:
· Develop a low cost data acquisition unit for head and eye tracking based
data.
· Identify feasible indicators (camera-based and other) of driver sleepiness
and distraction.
· Implement and validate camera-based indicators of driver sleepiness in a
field setting using an instrumented car.
· Investigate the performance of the indicators as sleepiness detectors.
· Develop a sleepiness classifier for driving simulators (that can be used in
future studies that aim to evaluate e.g. sleepiness warning interfaces).
A secondary aim was to create a database with
driver impairment data (sleepiness and distraction)
from both field and simulator tests. The database is
intended to be used for further analyses in future
projects.

The project included a literature review on

indicators both for driver sleepiness and
distraction. The subsequent work was then limited
to include implementation and evaluation of
sleepiness indicators only, since the project would
be too extensive otherwise
