ASON SLA Classification of

Services

ASON network can provide different QoS for different
services.

SLA is used to classify services according to
protection and restoration schemes
 Diamond Service
 Gold Service
 Silver Service
 Copper service
 Iron service
 SLA services...

Diamond Services
 Best protection ability
 Permanent 1+1 protection
 Applicable to voice and data
services, VIP private line, such as
banking, security and aviation.
 two different LSPs available
between source and the sink nodes

Separate working and protection
LSP

The same service is transmitted
to the working and protection
LSPs at the same time

Sink node receives the service
from working LSP in normal
conditions otherwise it will
receive from protection LSP
 Three types

Permanent 1+1:routing triggered when an
LSP fails

Rerouting 1+1:routing triggered when both
 SLA Services...

Gold Service
 Greater BW utilzation
 applicable to voice and
significant data services
 needs only one LSP
 MSP switching is used for
protection

When working path fails(fiber
cut),ASON triggers MSP
switching for protection.

If MSP fails, rerouting will be
triggered to restore the service
 SLA Services...

Silver Service
 revertive time is hundreds
of milliseconds to several
seconds
 suitable for non-real time
data or Internet services
 rerouting service

LSP failure triggers rerouting

Service will be interrupted if
no resource available
 SLA Services...

Copper service
 Rarely used
 Can be used temporal
services like abrupt
services in holidays
 Non-protection service

If LSP fails, service will
not be rerouted and
interrupted.


Iron service
 Rarely used
 For bulk volume of holiday
services to utilize full
available bw
 preemptable service

During LSP failure no rerouting
and service will be interrupted

Preempted by rerouted
diamond and silver services if
network resource is insufficient
 SLA services in ethio telecom

services in OTN network are diamond
 some areas that have mesh topology (at least 3 dimensions)

Dedicated 1+1 rerouting
 areas with ring topology and ZTE OTN

1+1 ODUk SNCP protection, non rerouting

