About Karkinos

• Karkinos Healthcare Pvt. Ltd, a purpose driven technology-led oncology platform, is focused on
designing and delivering bespoke solutions for cancer care.

• The company, led by a blend of globally acclaimed medical professionals and technologists, is on a
mission to create ‘cancer centres without walls’ with a primary aim of addressing the accessibility or
affordability gaps in cancer care

Vision of the organisation:

To develop a best-in-class “Oncology Data Platform” targeting cancer care to be delivered at a global level.

Mission of the organisation:

To build an end-to-end technology driven oncology focused managed healthcare platform where almost no person
is deprived of care either by lack of access or affordability
Research flow suggested by organisation:
• Cancer burden in India
• Cancer scenario in India and other developing countries VS developed
countries
• Organizations working in cancer care space in India and abroad
• Recent and upcoming trends in technological advancements in cancer care
Implementation of such technologies in the world
• Organizations in India working on different technologies in cancer care
• How is India/Indian companies leading/lagging when it comes to tech
advances in cancer care
Problem Statement

• With the advancements in Health Tech, industry has been complex and expensive.
• There are multiple organisations which have been working in multitude of areas.
• Tech is revolutionizing the cancer care space helping accelerate progress against cancer.
• Understanding the various technologies being worked on and deployed for early detection of cancer and
end-to-end care will help the Karkinos Healthcare to make decisions on technology deployment.

Scope :
To understand the various technologies being worked on and deployed for early detection of cancer and end-to-
end care and to analyse the competitive space and the benefits to citizens.
POTENTIAL BENEFICIARIES OF PROJECT

Patients:
Lives of the patients will be saved by early prediction of cancer using prediction technologies and treating it
before the growth.
Hospitals:
Hospitals will have data driven decision making models to proactively treat the cancer and save the patient
from death.
Doctors:
Automated predictive analytics helps doctors to make informed decisions proactively and start treatments
beforehand.
Objectives of the project

 To understand the tech implications for early cancer detection.

 To understand the blockchain use cases in Cancer-Tech in Indian Scenario
 To understand the AI & ML (Big Data & Predictive Analytics) in Indian Scenario.
 To understand the blockchain use cases in Cancer-Tech globally.
 To understand the AI & ML (Big Data & Predictive Analytics) globally.
Sustainable Development Goals Mapping:

SDG 3.4 by 2030 reduce by one-third pre-mature mortality from non-communicable diseases (NCDs)
through prevention and treatment, and promote mental health and wellbeing.

SDG Goal Keywords: Mapping

Early detection of cancer at Stage 1 & Stage 2 helps to treat the

Premature Mortality patients at early stage, cure the disease and prevents the death of
the patients at early age i.e., 30 to 45

Second, cancer is one of a handful of chronic, non-communicable

Non-communicable disease diseases with common risk factors that could benefit the majority
of the world's population if prevented and controlled.

Through early diagnosis of cancer through predictive analytics,

Prevention and treatment deep learning, etc., the cancer can be diagnosed at early stages
and prevented through proactive treatments

AI Use Cases
Use Case 1: Babylon healthcare platform features an AI engine created by experienced doctors and skilled deep-
learning scientists that operates an interactive symptom checker, assisting known symptoms and risk factors to
provide the most informed and up-to-date medical information possible.
Additionally, the Babylon Health platform features a health monitoring system to help people stay healthy for
longer periods of time.
Use Case 2:
Benevolent AI platform gets the right treatment to the right patients at the right time by using artificial
intelligence to produce a better target selection and provide previously undiscovered insights through deep
learning.
Benevolent AI is working with major pharmaceutical groups to license drugs, while also partnering with
charities to develop easily transportable medicines for rare diseases.
•
Blockchain– use cases
Hyper trust X-Chain working:
• The patient is the centre of attention in CAMELOT's application. The cells are collected, processed,
transported amongst stakeholders, and the 'right cells' are returned to the 'right patients' using a
closed-loop supply chain.
• Patients' data is made available for the therapeutic process based on blockchain technology via a
decentralised data storage, in accordance with legal data protection rules.
• All data transactions take place exclusively between verified participants and are kept in the
blockchain in an immutable and uniform manner.
Watson for Oncology:
• Watson for Oncology combines the extensive expertise of leading oncologists in cancer care with the
speed of IBM Watson to assist doctors in deciding on tailored cancer treatments for their patients.
• Watson for Oncology is a system that uses data from relevant guidelines, best practises, medical
journals, and textbooks to power its recommendations.
• The solution analyses data from a patient's medical record, evaluates medical evidence, and provides
potential treatment options ordered by level of confidence, with supporting evidence always provided.
The oncologist can then use their knowledge and experience to determine the best therapy alternatives.
Conclusion & Recommendations

• Using predictive analytics, a plan for cancer detection and treatment is an important part of any
overall cancer management strategy.
• To cure cancer patients or significantly extend their lives while maintaining a high quality of life,
the early detection mechanisms using predictive analytics and bigdata is important.
• A diagnostic and treatment plan should never be made in isolation if it is to be effective. It must
be linked to an early detection programme so that instances can be identified at an early stage,
when treatment is more successful and cure rates are higher.
• It must also be combined with a palliative care programme so that patients with advanced
cancers who are no longer able to receive therapy receive enough comfort from their bodily,
emotional, and spiritual suffering.
• By application of blockchain, patients' data need to available therapeutic process based on
blockchain technology via a decentralised data storage, in accordance with legal data protection
rules.
