WHAT DOES 3P STAND FOR?
The 3P is a successful teaching method and is widely used throughout the
world by many EFL and ESL teachers. Every 3P lesson has a language aim,
which students should fulfill by the end of it. The 3P can be applied to teach
grammar items, functions, vocabulary and even pronunciation.

PRESENTATION: 
Teacher introduces a situation and presents the target language
(L2) in context.

PRACTICE:
Students practice the target language (L2) items using accurate
reproductions techniques.

PRODUCTION:

Students use the target language (L2) and make sentences of


their own.
ACTIVITIES

 BRAINSTORMING:
The teacher demonstrates a puppet story on ‘The sleepy caterpillar’. Teacher
have some words repetition during the narration.

 CHORAL REPETITION:
The suggested ideas (prepositions in the story) are written on the board and
teacher helps with pronunciation and the meaning by recalling the places that
the caterpillar sleeps.

 PLACING WORDS INTO A CONTEXT:


Teacher asks pupils the position of their belongings like pencil case, water
bottle, books, lunch bag. (using interrogative pronoun ‘Where’). Teacher talks
about the placement of their belongings. The language items is explained
further in a contextualized way.
ACTIVITIES
• CHORAL DRILLS:
Students repeat the sentences on the board, using prepositions.

FOCUS ON FORM:
The teacher explains the grammatical use of L1 referring the
prepositions to its function: writing about the things around the classroom.

 MONITORING:
The teacher asks conceptual questions to check pupils’ understanding
on prepositions and the usage.

 READ AND STICK:


Students read the sentences and stick the objects correctly according to
the positions or place.

ACTIVITIES

• COMMUNICATIVE TASK:

 The teacher gives a task sheet to every pupils to complete with


the suitable prepositions.

 The pupils work in pair, asking about their belongings and objects
around the classroom.
Example: Where’s your lunch box?

 The pupils could try to discuss and find the objects’ position and fill
in the worksheet on their own.
