India requires significant exploration and exploitation of its geothermal energy resources. Geophysical surveys are the most important method for understanding subsurface areas with geothermal potential. Various geophysical techniques like gravity, magnetic, seismic, magnetotelluric, and electrical resistivity surveys can explore the physical parameters of rock and interpret data to provide structural information about geothermal bodies and their hot fluid content, which can then be used to generate electricity or for heating and cooling.

Roll No - 1803781(205-18) Submitted To- Dr Sudhir Sharma OVERVIEW INTRODUCTION From the energy point of view India requires huge thrust in exploration and exploitation in field of geothermal resources. Among all the surveys known, Geophysical survey is the most important survey for understanding subsurface sweet spots. INTRODUCTION • It is found that most of the methods for geothermal exploration were based on the parameters which are directly influenced by the activities like self- potential, geophysical well logs, geochemistry and electrical methods. • The physical parameters of the host rock are explored by the various geophysical techniques like Gravity, Magnetic, Seismic, Magnetotelluric and Electrical Resistivity surveys etc INTRODUCTION • The interpretation of the survey data provides structural size of the geothermal bodies as well as the hot fluid content. • In many regions of the world the geothermal energy is present in forms of steam and hot water which is used for the purpose of electricity generation, space heating and cooling etc.
