• The Persians are credited with the invention of essential oil distillation in the 10th century; however, the process may have existed for much longer.
16th century
• In the 16th century, knowledge about essential oil distillation was published in Germany.
19th century
• René-Maurice Gattefossé, a French perfumer and chemist, created the word "aromatherapy" in a book he wrote on the subject and published in 1937. He had already found
lavender's therapeutic power in the treatment of burns. The book goes through the usage of essential oils in the treatment of medical ailments.
20th century
The Egyptians utilized cedarwood, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, and myrrh oils to embalm the dead. Traces of the plants were discovered alongside undamaged pieces of the body when
a tomb was unearthed in the early twentieth century. In addition, the Egyptians employed infused oils and herbal concoctions for spiritual, medical, aromatic, and cosmetic purposes.
The phrase perfume is considered to have been originated by the Egyptians, from the Latin per fumum, which translates as "through the smoke."
21st century
• Unproven assertions- Aromatherapy is thought to have weak scientific proof in various areas. There is a paucity of research to support the use of aromatherapy in the treatment of
Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and heart disease.
