Heart
INTRODUCTION

the human heart is situated between the lungs and the

chest cavity, with it's apex pointing to the left. It’s walls
are made up of cardiac muscles that contract
rhythmically

The rhythmic contractions are triggered by a tissue

called the ‘pacemaker’ or sinoatrial node.

The heart is enclosed by a double-walled sac called the

pericardium. Between these two walls, the pericardial
fluid is present which provides lubrication during
contraction and expansion.

CHAMBERS OF

Heart
the

The Heart has 4 chambers. The two upper chambers are called
Atria or Auricles, And the two lower chambers are called
Ventricles.
Based on their positions, they’re called : Right Atrium, Left
Atrium, Right Ventricle and Left Ventricle.

Functions : The Atria receive blood from different organs

and pump it into the ventricles.
Whilst Ventricles pump the received blood from Atria out of Structure of
the heart to the different organs of the body Human Heart

The upper Auricles and the lower Ventricles are separated

by the Auricular-Ventricular Septum
VALVES OF

THE
~theHEART
Heart~

Blood is pumped out of each chamber and its flow is checked with
the help of 4 Heart valves,
The valves ensure that the flow of the blood is only in one direction
and oxygenated and deoxygenated blood do not mix with each other.

~The 4 Valves present in the Heart are :

• Tricuspid Valve - lies between Right Atrium and Right Ventricle

• Pulmonary Semilunar Valve - lies between Right Ventricle and
Pulmonary Artery
• Bicuspid Valve - lies between Left Atrium and Left Ventricle
• Aortic Semilunar Valve :- lies between Left Ventricle and Aorta
