Profile
Maharashtra is a leading State in agriculture. Principal crops grown in the State are rice,
jowar, bajra, wheat, tur, mung, urad, gram and other pulses. The State is a major producer of
oilseeds. Groundnut, sunflower, soyabean are the major oil seed crops. The important cash
crops are cotton, sugarcane, turmeric and vegetables. State is pioneer in onion production in
the country. It is today emerging as an important horticultural State in the country. Different
types of soil, diverse agro climatic conditions, adequate technical manpower, well
developed communication facilities, increasing trend in drip irrigation, green house, use of
cool chain facilities and vibrant farmer organisation offer wide opportunities to grow
different horticultural crops in the State. Best quality grapes produced in the State are now
exported to other countries. Mango, particularly 'Alphanso', grown in Konkan, has already
established name in the international market. The State has an area of 13.66 lakh hectares
under various fruit crops like mango, banana, orange, grape, cashew nut, etc.

Upcoming infrastructure projects in mumbai
• From 2022 onwards, many of the city’s ongoing projects will start hitting their completion. These major
infra projects include the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, Navi Mumbai International Airport, Mumbai
Coastal Road, Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor, Mumbai Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail, Goregaon-
Mulund Link Road, and the planned underground tunnel between Borivali and Thane.
• The 21.8 km-long Mumbai Trans Harbour Link is one of the most anticipated projects in the city, connecting
it with rapidly developing Navi Mumbai, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, and the proposed Western Freeway.
A similar sea link is the Mumbai Coastal Road, connecting Marine Lines in the south of the city to Kandivali
in the north. The Goregaon-Mulund Link Road will comprise of three six-lane flyovers that will include two
tunnels. Similarly, the Thane-Borivali twin tunnels will connect the city with Thane. In the next few years,
we will also see a big push with the metro line. The 14 lines of the Mumbai metro are spread across more
than 200 km, with a further 21.289 km coverage approved and 136.4 km under the proposal. Of this, 11.4 km
are operational while 169.061 km is under construction.
Mining
The Mumbai High Field, formerly called the Bombay High Field, is an offshore oilfield 176
km off the west coast of Mumbai, in Gulf of Cambay region of India, in about 75 m of water.
The oil operations are run by India's Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).

Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
1- Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is an under-construction eight-lane access-controlled
expressway that will connect the country’s National Capital, Delhi, with the Financial
Capital, Mumbai.
2- Once completed, it will be the world’s longest expressway-- 1380 km long.
3- The expressway will reduce the travel time by 12 hours from the earlier 24 hours.
4- It will house the country’s first-ever animal overpass on the lines of European nations.
5- The expressway passes through the states of Madhya Pradesh (370 km), Gujarat (300
km), Haryana (80 km), Rajasthan (380 km) and Maharashtra (120 km). It will have its north
end in Delhi and south end in Mumbai.
