LGU PROFILE

Dimataling is also one of the coastal towns within the Baganian Peninsula which is endowed with rich marine
product. Fishing and Agar-Agar plantation is one of the major sources of livelihood of the coastal residents.The
major agricultural crops being produced in the municipality are rice, corn, copra/coconut, cassava, banana,
mangoes and some other fruit trees.

The Municipality of Dimataling is composed of 24 barangays with a population of 27,715 with 5,770 households
as of the 2010 census.

It is situated at the eastern part of the Baganian Peninsula, south of Pagadian City, comprising the western
shores of Yllana Bay; bounded by the municipalities of Dinas and San Miguel on the North; by Yllana Bay on the
east; by the Municipality of Tabina and Pitogo on the South; and by portions of the Municipalities of
Margosatubig, VincenzoSagun and Maligay Bay on the West.

TOPOGRAPHY

The physical feature of Dimataling is described as moderately rolling to steep, mountains. The eastern and
southern section of the municipality is characterized as having a flat to gently undulating mountains. The north
and western part of the town has a moderately rolling slopes ranging from 5º to 15º, except for the area where
Mt. Buga is located. Mt. Buga the highest peak in the area has an altitude of 500 meters above sea level.

CLIMATE

As part of the province of Zamboanga del Sur, Dimataling has a very good amount of rainfall. The climate is
naturally mild and ideal for agricultural purposes with its fertile soil as its boosting factor. The area will be
relatively dry from November to April and wet during the rest of the year. Annual average rainfall will vary from
44.5m and not more than 100m. Rainiest month from June to October and gradually declines from November
to December. The temperature in the municipality is fairly warm. This belongs to Type 1V of climate
classification. The effect of typhoon winds is minimal. Thus, crops and dwelling places seldom encounter
damages and destruction.

SOIL TYPES

With various soil types found in Zamboanga del Sur, this municipality stands out to be different from the rest of
the towns. Soil is the natural medium of plant growth. The Soils Division of the Department of Agriculture
Region 1X has classified the soils of Dimataling into three basic soil type advantages namely:

 Hydrosol – This type of soil found in wet places such as swamps and marshes and is best suited for
fishponds and fish culture
 Dimataling Clay Loam – This type of soil is best suited for the cultivation of lowland rice, corn, tree
crops /orchards, coconuts, vegetables and other seasonal crops.
 Faraon Clay Loam – This soil type is best suited for the cultivation of tobacco, coconut, corn, upland
rice, rootcrops.

DEMOGRAPHY

The actual census of population in 2000 is 25,843 in 4,949 households while in the 2010 census the population
is 27,715 in 5,546 households. These are distributed among its twenty four (24) barangays. Based on these
actual censuses of population the average household size is Five (5) with an annual growth rate of 2.28 %.
Based on the year 2000 actual census, there are Four Major Ethno Linguistic Groups in the municipality. Forty
percent (40%) of the total population is Visayan or Bisaya, Tirty Seven percent (37 %) Cebuano, Nine percent (9
%) Maguindanao, and Five percent (5 %) are Subanen. The remaining percentage is from the northern part of
the country and the island of Mindanao. The major dialects are Visayan/Bisaya, Cebuano, Maguidanao,
Subanen, Ilonggo, Illocano, Bul-anon, Tausog, Samal, Iranon and Chabacano. About Sixty percent (60 %) of
majority of the population belongs to the Roman Catholic, Fifteen percent (15 %) Islam, Eight (8 %) Evangelicals,
Five percent (5 %) Aglipay while the other minority belongs to different denominations like iglesia Ni Cristo,
Seventh Day Adventist, UCCP, and other Denominations.
ECONOMY

Dimataling is a fourth (4th) class municipality. As of 2012 the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) is Php
50,079,977.00 plus the local income of Php 3,690,209.00 totaling to Php53, 776,120.00 and this represents the
total income of the year. The municipality has an approximate total land area of 141.80 Square Kilometer or
14,180 hectares where Eighty Nine point fifty Eight percent (89.58 %) is devoted for agriculture. The major
agricultural crops being produce in the municipality are rice, corn, copra/coconut, cassava, banana, mangoes
and some other fruit trees.
