• Hello, my dear students and welcome to Lit 2 - The Tradition of Poetry! Today marks the
second semester of the Academic Year 2021-2022! I want to take this excellent
opportunity to introduce myself and welcome you all to a new semester here at the
Laguna State Polytechnic University.
COURSE INSTRUCTOR
• My name is Ernesto Thaddeus M. Solmerano, and I’ll be your course instructor or sensei
in this class. I hold a Master of Arts in Letters, a Master of Arts in Education, major in
Curriculum and Instruction, a Bachelor of Arts in English, and a Bachelor of Arts in
Political Science degrees - all from Far Eastern University, Manila. At present, I am
taking my Ph.D. in English at the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA. I have
taught at FEU and LSPU for over 20 years. This will be my fifth-year teaching at LSPU,
and I'm excited to be your teacher in this course.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
• Lit 2 is a three-unit course designed to initiate students to the critical reading of numerous
poems written by poets from different countries, in different centuries, and using different
genres, such as lyric, epic, narrative and dramatic. The course aims to provide the student with
the tools necessary to read and perform poems in the context of the tradition of poetry.
Students in this course are expected to produce critical papers and creative projects that offer
insights and perspectives on the human condition and real-world problems.
