HLII- composite generation and transmission systems (VIBE-14)

• The purpose of assessing the reliability of power systems at this level is to estimate the
ability of the system.
• Assessment of reliability is very complex and must consider the integrated effect of
generation and transmission.
• Bulk transmission facilities must be carefully matched with the generation to permit
energy movement from these sources to points.
• The ability to generate sufficient energy to satisfy the demands at the BSPs, and to
transport it without violating the system operational constraints, can be measured by 7
reliability indices in HLII.
• Static evaluation is known as adequacy, ability to respond to disturbance in the system is
security and combining of the two categories is reliability.
• 7 reliability indices in HLII are(1) Probability of Failure, (2)Frequency of Failure, (3)Expected
number of voltage violations, (4) )Expected number of load curtailments, (5)expected load
curtailed, (6)Expected energy not supplied, (7)Expected duration of load curtailment.
