WCDB
 It provides UMG resource management, outgoing trunk selection, and WVD

B distribution agent management (MSRN number allocation, WVDB mainten

ance command forwarding) functions.

 The WCDB contains global data which can be accessed by all WCCUs/WCS

Us and WVDBs.

 Because the WCDB is an accessed center, its load is relatively large. In

small-capacity configuration mode, its functions can be implemented by
one pair of WCDBs.

 In a large-capacity configuration mode, different functions must be distrib

uted to different WCDBs.

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. All rights reserved Page 39

WVDB
 The VLR Database Board (WVDB) is a front board used to store the subscrip

tion data of mobile subscribers.

 In a large-capacity application, multiple pairs of WVDBs are required to store

the subscription data.

 The subscription information of one subscriber is stored in the same pair

of WVDBs.

 The principles for distributing subscriber data on different WVDBs have b

een described in the Section about WCDB (also named WVDB distributio
n agent function).

 Such distribution is transparent for the WCCU/WCSU service layer.

WALU
 The Alarm Unit (WALU) is a front board installed fixedly in slot 16 in

each frame. Its functions are as follows:

 Acting as a slave node, communicating with the master node
(WSMU) through serial port bus, and controlling indicator under the
instructions of the WSMU.
 Monitoring the temperature of the chassis and reporting it to the
WSMU through serial port bus.
 Collecting and logically integrating fault detection signals and in-
position signals of the four power modules, reporting them to the
WSMU through serial port bus, independently implementing the
display of the working status and in-position status of the power
boards by the indicators.

Rules of Boards Configuration
 WSMU, WSIU, WHSC, WALU, UPWR are mandatory and are configur

ed in fixed slots.
 0 ~ 5,10 ~ 15 slots are used to install service boards (front boards) a
nd interface boards (back boards). (0,1), (2,3), (4,5), (10,11), (12,13),
(14,15) are slots pair. It is recommended that active and standby board
s are installed in one pair of slots.
 When TDM is used, WCKIs (back boards) are configured fixedly in slot
s 13 and 15 of the basic frame, and each board occupies two slots. It i
s recommended to insert the WEPIs (back boards) in slots 0 and 1 bef
ore other slots.
 One pair of WMGCs can support the maximum capacity of the system.
They are installed in basic frame.
 One pair of WCDBs can support up to 1,000,000 subscribers. The syst
em supports two pairs of WCDBs at maximum. They are installed in ba
sic frame.
