CHARACTERS AND ROLES : :

Case summary
 Kirk is a very bright individual and is being groomed for the position
as Controller. He exhibits many qualities of a leader being diligent
and moral.
 The company has begun to include Kirk in core business functions.
Kirk attend the monthly financial statement review given by a
reputable consulting company. Kirk is a optimistic man who believes
in company’s promising future.
 The new facility will produce waste products that will meet current
federal standards but will not meet the more stringent industry
standards.
 Additional treatment facilities will increase the cost per unit.
 The company’s products face a competitive market. The closest
competitor does not have the waste treatment facilities that already
exist in this firm. The president and most managers at the meeting are
not in favour of additional expenditures for waste treatment facilities.
 Kirk is concerned about management’s attitude toward the
environment. And he is unsure if he can continue on with the firm.

1) What actions should kirk take ?


A) I believe Kirk should do research of his own by contacting environmentalist groups and know the
reason for them pushing for the regulation changes at the federal level to meet the industry
standards before approaching the company. This would give Kirk more insights and information
about the situation before he approached anyone from the company about his thoughts. Once Kirk
has proper insights and formulated his opinion he can approach Henry. As Henry is his direct boss.
Speaking with Henry will allow for proper following of chain of command. Kirk can express his
concerns, point out the reasons to support his opinion. If Henry does not share the same opinion or is
not willing to share the thoughts with Bob on behalf of Kirk, Kirk can go to Bob himself .
Approaching Henry first shows his respect towards Henry and obeying basic fundamentals of chain
of commands. If kirk and Bob get nowhere agreeing or on a proper settlement
kirk is left with two options
1. Either suite himself for a new job
2. Let go and not jeopardize his position at the firm.

Answer:
we are Living in a society where society that is pushing being more
“green/sustainable ” livelihood , not upgrading to a better sustainable
option will affect the public perception and reputation and goodwill of
the company .
organizations must practice genuine corporate social responsibility to
be successful in the modern marketplace and
Business is also responsible for protecting and improving the world’s
fragile environment. So the company has more obligation towards
Federal regulations rather than its fellow competitors .
QUESTION 3:
How can the company justify a higher concern for the
environment than for its stockholders?

A) Company can Justify a Higher concern for the environment than


that for its stockholders by allocating funds and by prioritizing
federal regulations over competition and stockholders and by not
compromising in terms of quality of better waste facilities for the
units as Business is also responsible for protecting and improving the
world’s fragile environment.

What obligation does the company have to future generations of
citizens and employees?
