Patent
• Patent is a legal document that gives Patent holder
exclusive rights to implement described invention
commercially.
• Word Patent is a latin term PATERE means open letter.
• A Patent is a form of intellectual property which gives its
owner the right to exclude others from making, using,
selling and importing an invention for a limited period
usually 20 years.
• The purpose of this system is to encourage inventions by
promoting their protection and invention resulting in
developing industries.

Rights of a Patentee
to exploit the patent
The pRight atentee has a right to prevent 3rd parties, from
exploiting the patented invention
Right to grant license
The patentee has a power to assign rights or grant license
Right to surrender
The patentee is given the right to surrender the patent by giving
notice in prescribed manner to the controller.

district court
