GUIDE LINES FOR THE TRAINER.

1. THE TRAINING PROGRAMME WILL NEED TO BE INAUGURATED BY THE UNIT


HEAD.
2. THIS WILL BE FOLLOWED BY THE PPT PRESENTATION.
3. OUT OF THE NUMEROUS ROAD SIGNS GIVEN YOU MAY CHOOSE TO USE
5 AND ASK THE PARTICIPANTS FOR THE RIGHT ANSWERS.
4. TWO CDs ARE IN THE FOLDER. ONE FROM HERO HONDA & THE OTHER ON
SAFETY. SCREEN BOTH THESE CDs.
5. THE INAUGURATION, PPT PRESENTATION SHOULD BE COMPLETED IN ABOUT
1 ½ HRS.
6. THIS WILL BE FOLLOWED BY THE PRACTICAL TRAINING SESSION – APPROX
2 HRS.
7. THIS WILL CONSIST OF a) PRE RIDER CHECK, b) CORRECT POSTURE,
c) SAFE RIDING & BRAKING & d) THE SLOW RIDING TECHNIQUE.
8. ALL THE ABOVE WILL FIRST BE DEMONSTRATED & ALLOW THE TRAINEES
TO PRACTICE ON THEIR OWN VEHICLES.
9. DIVIDE THE GROUP INTO TWO BATCHES & ENSURE CLOSE SUPERVISION
& ABUNDANT CAUTION.
10. FIT IN THE TEA & LUNCH BREAK AS PER CONVENIENCE.

PLACE THE MOTOR CYCLE ON ITS CENTRE STAND

 CHECK LEVEL OF FUEL AND ENGINE OIL


 CHECK CONDITION OF THE TYRE AND TYRE PRESSURE
 CHECK ELECTRICAL CABLE, SIGNAL LIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS,
HEAD LIGHT AND HORN
 CHECK FRONT & REAR BRAKES
 ADJUST THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR
 CHECK DOCUMENTS – DRIVING LICENCE, RC, INSURANCE,
POLLUTION UNDER CONTROL
 FIRST AID KIT
 TOOL BOX
DRIVING POSTURE
 EYES – Looking forward in the direction you are moving
 SHOULDERS – Relaxed
 ELBOWS – Bent slightly and relaxed
 HANDS – Grasping the center of the grips from where you
can easily operate levers and switches
 HIPS – Sitting in a position where you can easily operate
handle bars and brakes
 KNEES – Close to the fuel tank to maintain the best balance
of the bike
 FEET – Placed with the arc of shoes on the foot-rests, toes
facing forward, and resting lightly on the brake and gear
pedals
HOW TO BRAKE ?
 Decelerate fully
 Apply front and rear brakes simultaneously
and gradually
 Apply clutch before the vehicle comes to halt
 When the bike stops keep pressing the brake
with right foot and place left foot on the
surface

 KEEP THE SPEED TO THE MINIMUM BY
DECELERATING
 USE CLUTCH AND ACCELERATOR
 AVOID USE OF BRAKE
 KEEP THE THIGHS TOUCHING THE
FUEL TANK TO BALANCE THE BIKE
Driving in FOG
Safe Driving during Fog
 Reduce speed
 Use low beam lights
 Leave a safe braking distance between you and
the vehicle ahead
 If the fog is thick pull off to a safe parking
area and wait for the fog to lift.
Driving in Rain

 Drive at slow speed
 Check your brakes frequently during rainy
season
 Keep distance from other vehicles
 Avoid water clogged stretches
 Stay out of potholes
Driving during night
Driving during night
 Clean & check head light, tail light, signal light
before starting
 Ensure the head lights & tail lights are switched on
during dark and night
 Never look straight into the headlights of the on
coming vehicles
 Set head light beam properly
 When following another vehicle keep your head light
on low beam
 When you are tired/sleepy stop and take rest till you
feel refreshed
Driving in Hills

 Use correct Gear before climbing or descending


 Make way for bigger vehicles
 Never attempt to overtake near bends
 Sound the horn and use the dipper at blind corners
and sharp turns
 Vehicles going uphill should be given preference
 Never turn off engine while going down the hill
HELMETS

• Always use branded and ISI certified helmets


– IS 4151.
• Helmets to be properly strapped – leaving 2 finger
gap
• Ensure Pillion rider also uses a helmet
• Use bright colored, full mask helmet with a
reflective sticker
• Driver & pillion to wear reflective jackets.
SAFE DRIVING CARDINALS
 Follow traffic rules & respect road signs
 Practice lane driving & do not weave through traffic
 Give indicator well before taking a turn
 Never jump red & amber signals
 Never ride under influence of alcohol or drugs
 Never use mobile phone while riding
 Flash the headlights and overtake from the right side
 Always drive at 40km/hr +/- 5. It’s a safe driving speed
 Before commencing the journey turn around & look behind
for any vehicles.
 Be a responsible & a courteous driver.
