Background

▪ After the death of Oei Tiong Ham, the business was


continued by his son, Oei Tjong Hauw.
▪ Oei Tjong Hauw faced number of problems that
interfere with the stability of the company's activities.

December 1949, Indonesia was faced with demands for
economic independence.

▪ One of the Chinese-owned businesses that were affected


by anti-foreign sentiment is Oei Tiong Ham Concern.
▪ In these conditions, there was a conflict between the
company and the Indonesian government regarding the
issue of foreign currency.
▪ It reached a peak in 1961 when the government filed a
lawsuit against Oei Tiong Ham Concern.

wealth in Indonesia.

owned by people who were not residents of Indonesia
without the permission of the government of the
Republic of Indonesia.
Lawsuit

▪ Oei Tiong Ham Concern’s wealth that has been


transferred to foreign countries namely the United
States, West Germany, and the Netherlands is 6,812,574
guilders without permission or report from LAAPLN.
▪ Semarang Economic Court under the chairmanship of
Mr. Suhendro decided to confiscate the entire wealth of
Oei Tiong Ham Concern in Indonesia.
Lawsuit

▪ After that, the government seized then formed


corporations to arrange for the resumption of Oei Tiong
Ham Concern.
▪ The big change then occurred on October 12, 1964
when the company transformed under the name P.T.
National Economic Development Company Rajawali
Indonesia.
