Organisms Let us
(Life Cycle of selected animals) explore!
Tasks Card

A. Main Tasks: Let us ivestigate!

Compare the stages of the life Cycle of Organisms
B. Sub topics:
1. Identify animals that undergo metamorphosis
in the life cycle.
2. Identify some animals that undergo
incomplete metamorphoses in the life cycle.
3. Observe and compare the life cycle of egg-
laying animals.
Hello there! . Guide Card

A metamorphosis is a biological process by

which an animal physically develops after
birth or being hatched. It is part of the life
cycle of the most insects. A life cycle is a
period involving one generation of an
organism.

Let us investigate and learn more
about metamorphosis

The term metamorphosis refers to

the way insects develop, grow, and
change form, usually accompanied by
change of habitat or behavior

-complete and
-incomplete or gradual.

metamorphosis

1.Egg — An egg is the beginning or the unborn stage of the

life cycle. Butterfly lays egg on the plant leaf. Mosquito lays
egg on a stagnant water.
2.Larvae — hatch from egg but do not look adult insects.
For instance, the larvae of butterflies are caterpillars.
3.Pupa —Larvae make cocoon around themselves, and

become busy changing into their adult forms. They do not eat
during this time. This can take few days, or in some cases
months.
4.Adult - After a period of time, larvae is nothing like it was,
and exits the cocoon or larval body as an adult. The stages
of development continue and repeat and that composes the
life cycle.

1.Egg—A female insect lays eggs. Sometimes the eggs are in

group and protected by a covering or case.
2.Nymph—The eggs hatch into nymphs. Nymphs look like
small adults, but usually don’t have wings. They eat, grow and
develop. Nymph molts their exoskeletons as they grow. As this
occurs, they gradually begin to look more and more like adult.

3 Adult—Once the nymph as grown to an adult size, they stop

molting (maglono). Generally, adults are the only stage in an
insect’s life when it has wings. Adults’ primary interest is
mating.

white spot is the developing chick. The egg
white protects the developing chick from
any danger, while the eggshell protects the
egg yolk and the egg white. The
development of the chick takes place in a
period of 21days.

The Life of • A female frog lays egg among water plant
a Frog that thrive in water. A male frog drops its
sperm on the eggs. The frog eggs are
fertilized by the frog sperms in the water.
The fertilized eggs develop in to young
tadpoles. A tadpole develops gills through
which it breaths. It uses it tail for
swimming. As the tadpole grows, its
hindlegs appear. Later, the front legs ap
pear. The tail becomes shorter. The gills
disappear and lungs develop. The
• Young frog can now breathe out of water.
The young frog grows into an adult frog
and life cycle is repeated.
The Life Cycle of Humans
Pregnancy is the start of the human life cycle. The fetus is
developed in the mother’s womb and once matured; birth
then takes place.

Birth begins after the baby is delivered out by its mother to the
world.

Infancy is categorized as lasting from birth through the first year of life.
The infant is completely dependent upon its parents or caretakers
for survival
What do you
think the phases
of the human life
cycle are?

Childhood takes place between ages1to10.The first 2 years, the child is

called a toddler. During this time, the child learns how to walk, talk and be
more self-sufficient. The child is susceptible during this time to learned
habits and behaviors.
Adolescence takes place between ages 12 and 18 and is a
critical turning point because it is when puberty takes place. Boys’
voices change and girls get periods. As such, they begin to separate
from parents and become more independent.

Adulthood last from age 18 though out old age. When human beings
are fully grown and must provide entirely for themselves.
