The Calling Killers

Calling – a strong inner impulse toward a particular

course of action especially when accompanied by
conviction of divine influence

Killer/s – one that is extremely difficult to deal with

How can a calling be aborted?

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great

a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the
sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with
endurance the race that is set before us.”

Hebrews 12:1 NKJV

Christian life is not a sprint, it is
an endurance run.
2 things that can keep us from finishing

1. Sin which so easily ensnares us

2. Weight

Sin will knock a person out of the call of God in life or greatly hinder it.

You should always deal with your sins and weights.

3 weights that can hinder us from our callings

1. Security
2. Money
3. Relationship
Security

“Now it happened as they journeyed on the road, that someone

said to him, “Lord, I will follow you wherever you go.” And Jesus
said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests,
but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”

Luke 9:57-58
Money

“Then He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord,

let me first go and bury my father.” Jesus said to him, “Let
the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the
kingdom of God.”

Luke 9:59-60
“But he shall acknowledge the son of the unloved wife as the
firstborn by giving him a double portion of all that he has, for he
is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.”

Deuteronomy 21:17
Relationship

“And another also said, “Lord, I will follow you but let me
first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.” But
Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to plow,
and looking back is, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

Luke 9:61-62
So now the question is, what are you putting first? What’s
important to God or what’s important to you?

If you will always choose to put what’s important to God,

He makes what’s IMPORTANT to you a PRIORITY.
Weights that hinder us from running our race are not the
only dangers of which we need to be aware. We also need
to know the danger unrepentant sin is toward our calling.
Let me tell you, if you have sin in your life and you don’t
receive God’s grace to deal with it, it will absolutely sap
your life. It has the potential to take you out completely, no
matter how well you think you can manage it.

Follow God regardless on how it affects your security,

money and relationship.
“After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by
two before His face into every city and place where He himself was about to go.
Then He said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few;
therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Luke 10:1-2 NKJV

“For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Matthew 22:14
The three weights that can hinder us in pursuing our calling are
security, money, and relationships. In other words, if we don’t trust
God with our future, our finances, and our relationships, we will be
ineffective in our callings.

Sins from which we have not repented and gained freedom from
are another danger to our callings. Many believers have tolerated
sin in their lives, believing they could manage it or that it was no big
deal, only to have it master them and destroy their callings. By the
power of God’s Spirit—the Spirit of grace—we must pursue
freedom for the sake of God’s calling on our lives.
