ABSTRACT

Mind reading encompasses our ability

to attribute mental states to others,
and is essential for operating in a
complex social environment. The goal
in building mind reading machines is to
enable computer technologies to
understand and react to people's
emotions and mental states.

 INTRODUCTION

 People express their mental states, including

emotions, thoughts, and desires, all the time through
facial expressions, vocal nuances and gestures.

 Mind reading machine is co-ordination of human

psychology & computer techniques.

 Some equipment are used to gather data & then

analyzed. To use those data for further prediction is
known as "Theory of mind reading".
 OBJECTIVE

 The whole objective of Mind reading is to improve the

Human-Computer Interface and enhance the Human
Interactions by being able to understand the mental
state of a Human Being.
 The goal is to enhance the human-computer interaction
through compassionate responses, to improve the
productivity of the user and to enable the applications
to initiate interactions with and on behalf of the user,
without waiting for an input from that user.
 WHAT IS MIND READING DEVICE?

The Mind Reading devices take the mental state

of a person as input.
This is similar to the input by a mouse or a
keyboard. Telepathy or mind-reading using a
computer is a way of transferring data between
people using methods that are different from
human senses.
The mind-reading is done by computer devices
that are specially made for this purpose. 
 WHAT IS MIND READING DEVICE?

Mind-reading devices make use of facial expressions

of people in knowing what they feel. The goal of
such a device is to increase the interaction between a
computer and a human being. 
It needs the use of a digital video camera that records
human expressions.
The mind-reading system compares the facial
expression of a person with his behavior to conclude
his mental state.  
 NEED FOR MIND READING 

 This also involves the consideration of a person’s head

movements.
 There is such mind-reading software that can make
consideration of the 24 features of a face to know the
facial expressions w.r.t. the real-time scenario.
 For identification of the smile and raised eyebrows of a
person, the movement, shape, and color changes are
monitored.
 All these combinations help a mind-reading computer to
know the mental state of a person.
 NEED FOR MIND READING
The need of Mind Reading Computer are due to
following reasons:-

 To support learning systems and on-line
shopping.
 To control the animation of cartoon like avatars.
 To detect driver mental states such as anger,
drowsiness, distraction.
 To monitor and Suggests improvement in human-
human Interaction.
 WORKING OF MIND COMPUTERS

Electroencephalograph (EEG) a device used by the

medical researchers to pick up electrical currents
from the various parts of the brain.

Two main components of mind computers include:

Futuristic Head band
Brain chips
 FUTURISTIC HEADBAND

 The mind reading actually involves measuring the

volume and oxygen level of the blood around the
subject's brain using technology called functional near-
infrared spectroscopy (FNIRS).

 The user wears a sort of futuristic headband that sends

light in that spectrum into the tissues of the head where it
is absorbed by active, blood-filled tissues. The headband
then measures how much light was not absorbed, letting
the computer gauge the metabolic demands that the brain
is making.

 Scientists successfully implants chips that control

Brain allowing thoughts, memory and behavior to
be transferred from one brain to another brain.
 In studies the scientists have been able to record,
download and transfer memories into other hosts
with the same chip implanted.
 The advancement in technology brings the world
one step closer to a global police state and the
reality of absolute mind control.
 BRAIN CHIPS
 It is inserted in the brain of a person to
control his/her thoughts and movements.

It is used for behavior correction in cases of

a Landfall.

This involves knowledge of the method

called neural engineering and Biomimetic
Microelectronic Systems.

Mind Reading Computer uses the following two
approaches:
 1.BIO FEEDBACK
In this process an individual can learn how to change the
physiological activity for purposes of improving the
health and performance. Accurate instruments measures
the physiological activity such as skin temperature, heart
function brainwaves, breathing and muscle activity. These
instruments gives rapidly and accurately 'feedback'
information to user. A subject is connected to an
electroencephalograph (EEG) and particular groups of
brain signals are monitored. The cons of biofeedback is
that the training period can stretch to long duration
approximately around the months, and the results can be
changed between subjects and the tasks which they try to
perform.
 2.STIMULUS AND RESPONSE

When a subject is given a certain stimulus,

the brain will automatically produce a
measurable response so there is no need to
train the subject to manipulate the specific
brain waves.
 ARCHITECTURE

• Eye Language Interpreter: The eye language

interpreter involves the use of technology to
understand what the mental states are with
respect to the eye expressions. Facial Action
Coding System (FACS) is used to further
enhance the understanding of the mental state.
This uses facial expressions to know that a
person is either happy or sad and knows even
other emotions are recorded by this system.

 It can convert thoughts into speeches. It can help

patients of paralysis a lot.
 The mind-reading system is well-equipped to convert
brain activity and states into words. This helps others
know about the feelings and mental states of a person.
 Its use in the banking sector can be done to analyze
people who would later go on to become bankrupt and
not return the loans. This would allow banks to avoid
loaning such clients.
 ADVANTAGES
 It can be used to know the truth of the statements that the
witnesses present in court, thereby leading to the correct
judgment.
 It can be used by investors to know if the person they are going
to invest in has the correct mindset and can be trusted with their
money.
 It would be possible for colleges to know the mindset of students
and check if it would be a good fit for their college and the
specific course they are applying for.
 Employers can know if the people applying would be loyal to the
company or not or are present to leak business secrets to
competitors.
 DISADVANTAGES

 This system might breach the confidentiality of a person.

 The mind-reading system can be outright dangerous if
handled carelessly or with vile intentions. It can be used
by terrorists to know the secret information of an enemy
country.
 It is never possible to know the complete information
with 100% accuracy. This is because the human brain is
super complex.
 FUTURE ASPECTS OF MIND
READING COMPUTERS
 Mind Reading technology is being researched for
the automobile industry. This system would know
if the person is sad, happy, angry, sleepy,
intoxicated, or distracted and can mention if he is
fit for driving or not. The body postures and
gestures are all included along with the facial
expressions and head movements to know the
mental state of the driver. Such applications are
being researched even for the online shopping
industry.  
 CONCLUSION

The Mind Reading Computer speculates the

mental states from the facial expressions along
with the head gestures in the Real Time Video.
Detecting the mental state is to be done with the
help of futuristic headband which sends an
Infrared light into the head’s tissues which
absorbed the light, the amount of light which is
not absorbed helps in detecting the various
mental states.
