INTRODUCTIO
N
Sensor data is transferred via USB to a LabVIEW-based
graphical interface for monitoring. The system is
particularly well-suited for small and medium-sized flower
businesses.

ainMETHODOLOGY

a. Analysis of the Greenhouse Variables In order to determine the relevant variables involved in
irrigation, ventilation, heating, and lighting systems of rose growing.

We addressed the following development stages: (1) analysis of the

relevant environmental variables involved in the growing of
roses, (2) data sensing and processing, (3) wireless
communications design, and (4) data acquisition and
transmission to the computer. Each stage is briefly summarized
next. Results are presented in Tables II, III, and IV.
METHODOLOGY

b. Information Sensing and Processing

Each sensor node is powered by a battery, which must be selected in accordance with the
application's specifications. We chose the FIRST POWER FP 1212 battery with a
capacity of 12VCD and 1.2Ah due to the low power consumption of short-range
WSN nodes. The system continuously monitors the status of each battery; as a result,
it is able to take immediate action in the event of a discharge or failure.
c. Wireless Communication For each sensor node
We chose DIGI-MEX 2.4 XBEE RF as wireless communication modules to be
utilised for end devices and coordinator nodes. PIC16F88 microcontroller
was designed for digitising the conditioned signals from each sensor. Data
is packed into frames of 16 bits per detected variable, as illustrated below.

d. Data Retrieval at the Computer

A PIC18F2550 microcontroller is responsible of constructing a virtual USB channel to deliver

data towards the computer, where the monitoring interface is built. To configure the driver
of the coordinator node, various settings of MCHPUSB file are altered, as shown in Fig
below

The proposed system
performs the
functions of
monitoring, alarm
generation in case
of variables
exceeding the
allowable ranges,
and alarm
generation for
batteries.
e. Deployment and Follow-up Results
The most typical warnings linked to frost, daytime hot temperature, soil moisture, and battery
failure were delivered within 10 minutes. The cost for this implementation was
exceptionally inexpensive, compared to comparable alternatives, for a 50m2 area. For
bigger exploitation regions, the rise in cost is acceptably modest, as previously mentioned.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS ain
A Wireless Sensor and Actor Network (WSN) for monitoring variables of ambient
temperature, relative humidity, soil moisture, CO2 concentration, and luminosity. System
has proved its usefulness in controlling roses illnesses and optimising the petal colouring.
Future effort will be committed to executing the power supply by employing photovoltaic
energy.
