When it comes to meal for

children…
A meal pattern is a collection of food components,
food items, and minimum quantities that are
necessary for breakfast, supplement (snack), lunch,
and supper for a given age range of children.
When it comes to school…

Meal patterns are used to create menus with the

healthiest meals for students. Further, the meal
patterns determine whether a meal is reimbursable;
in order for a school to receive reimbursement for a
meal served, it must contain components dictated by
the most current meal pattern standards.

Why is meal pattern
important?

Camera
Because eating at regular mealtimes is
actually one of the most effective ways to
maintain a healthy weight.
As a result of their intense hunger,
people who skip meals frequently end up
overeating, binging, or snacking on less-
nutritious items, which can contribute to
weight gain. Instead, it can lead to an
unhealthy relationship with food and a
cycle of overeating and undereating.
