History and evolution-ITC
• The Company was incorporated on August 24, 1910 under the name
Imperial Tobacco Company of India Limited. As the Company's ownership
progressively Indianised, the name of the Company was changed to India
Tobacco Company Limited in 1970 and then to I.T.C. Limited in 1974.
• Sanjiv Puri (60) is the Chairman & Managing Director of ITC Limited.
• Things started changing after Ajit Narain Haksar became the first Indian
chairman in 1969.
• (Indian shareholding had begun in 1954.) A year later, the Imperial in the
company's name became India, and in 1974, it became plain ITC.

• ISO 14001: Environment Management Systems
All manufacturing Units of ITC, all major hotels and the ITC Life Sciences &
Technology Centre at Bengaluru hold this certification.
• OHSAS 18001: Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems
All manufacturing units of ITC have this certification.
• Food Safety: ISO 22000/HACCP Food Safety Management System:
ITC Maurya, ITC Mughal, ITC Maratha, ITC Grand Central, ITC Sonar, IT
Windsor, ITC Kakatiya, ITC Rajputana and WelcomHotel Sheraton New
Delhi and My Fortune Chennai have this certification.

• ITC was incorporated on August 24 1910 under the name Imperial Tobacco
Company of India Ltd. As the company's ownership progressively Indianised
the name of the company was changed from Imperial Tobacco Company of
India Ltd to India Tobacco Company Ltd in the year 1970 and then to I.T.C. Ltd
in the year 1974.
• During the year first six decades of the company's existence were primarily
devoted to the growth and consolidation of the Cigarettes and Leaf Tobacco
businesses the seventies witnessed the beginnings of a corporate
transformation that would usher in momentous changes in the life of the
company.

• ITC's annual consumer spends of its FMCG brands exceeded Rs


24,000 crore in 2021-22.
• In its annual report released, the company said its FMCG revenue
grew from Rs 12,844 crore in FY20 to Rs 15,994 crore in FY22.
• Revenue of its FMCG-Others segment, too, witnessed an increase
of 25% over FY20.
• Packaged goods to hotels conglomerate ITC Ltd on Thursday said
that 70-80 of its 120 manufacturing locations in India, including
those operated by third-party vendors, are currently operational,
running at anywhere between 20% to 60% capacity a month in to
India's lockdown.
•  It employs 36,500 people at more than 60 locations across India.
