Building is one
of the landmark
symbols of
Budapest.
Work on the
building began
in 1884, and it
was completed
in 1902.
The main entrance leads to a ceremonial staircase with ceiling frescoes by
Károly Lotz. From here opens a 16-sided hall below the dome, used for
official receptions and ceremonies. The MP's debating chamber is in the
south wing.
Liberty bridge
Built in 1894, the bridge spans the Danube and was
opened in 1896 by the Emperor Franz Joseph. The bridge
is a steel construction and at first site looks like a
suspension bridge. However, the construction is a
combination of a steel arch with extra strength provided by
triangulation.
The
Royal
Palace
The first palace was built by Béla IV in 1243. In the 1350s, the Anjou
kings began to build a royal court here. The next king was
Sigismund of Luxemburg. King Mátyás gave a strong Renaissance
accent to the palace. The invading Turks used it as a barracks. The
Habsburgs built their Baroque palace
