About ESL Readiness Class
What is “ESL Readiness Class?”
It's the first class for all new ESL students. You can consider it
as an orientation class, but it's more than that. Taking
the Readiness class will help you get ready for ESL classes.

Why do you need to take the Readiness class?

As new ESL students, you must begin in Readiness class. Your
Readiness teacher will assess your English skills and then place
you into the correct ESL level. There are 6 levels in the ESL
program. This Readiness class is for beginning levels, so you
are likely to be placed into ESL Level 1 or Level 2 next quarter.
What are the learning outcomes
of the Readiness class?
After the Readiness class, you will…
 know how to use Canvas and Zoom,
 understand how to find and use student
support resources at Bellevue College.
After the Readiness class, you will…
 improve your listening, speaking, reading, and
writing skills,
 know what skills you are good at,
 know what skills you are NOT good at,
 know your goals and make a study plan.
After the Readiness class, you will…
 know your ESL level,
 get registered in an ESL class for Fall Quarter
2022.

How to register for a Fall 2022 ESL class?
Take the final tests.

You will also take the CASAS post-tests. Xiaolin will compare your scores of
CASAS pre-tests and post-tests to measure your progress and decide your
ESL Level.

Conference with your teacher.

Before you register, Xiaolin will discuss with you your final test results and
show you the Fall quarter class options. You will be placed in the best ESL level
and enroll in a class that has available space.

for your Fall quarter class in ctcLink.
