Place For EdTech In National Education Policy
(NEP 2020 )
India is a global leader in information and communication
technology and in other cutting-edge domains, such as space.
It stores different types of information and relationships
among information. Those Technology itself will play an
important role in the improvement of educational processes
and outcomes;

The relationship between technology and education at all levels is

bidirectional.

Thus these areas and beyond will require extensive research both on the
technological as well as educational fronts.
Due focus on the importance of technology for various teaching needs
has been mentioned in the new policy.

Another important addition is the emphasis on the skill of coding

The policy around the initiative of digital India mentions working around
digital infrastructure, development of tools and platforms for online
teaching, creation of virtual labs, and digital repositories.
It also focuses on training teachers to become high-quality online
content creators, designing and implementing online assessments,
establishing standards for content, technology, and pedagogy for online
teaching-learning.

It calls for carefully designed and appropriately scaled pilot studies to

determine how the benefits of online/digital education can be reaped
while addressing or mitigating the downsides.
The Policy recognizes the importance of technology in addressing
various challenges and seeks to promote interdisciplinary research and
innovation.

An autonomous body, the National Educational Technology Forum

(NETF), will be created to provide a platform for the free exchange of
ideas on the use of technology to enhance learning, assessment,
planning, administration, and so on, both for school and higher
education.
Scope For improvement Wrt Edutech
Timely assessments with regular feedback for improvement and expert
guidance must be provided at all times.

1) IMPROVE PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOR QUALITY AND SOCIAL INTEGRATION
Rethinking needs to be done on the mandate of RTE (The Right of Children to Free and
Compulsory Education Act (RTE)-2009), which states that 25% of seats in private schools are
to be reserved for the weaker sections of society.

The trends have shown although enrollment in private schools is increasing tremendously
even among the poor in rural areas, learning levels have not shown any significant
improvement.

By mandating reservations in public schools, the Government is abdicating itself of its

responsibility towards improving the quality of public schools. So with the introduction of the
NEP 2020, thinking to be done to improve the quality of Public Schools.
2) INCREASE BUDGETARY ALLOCATION ON
EDUCATION WITH PROPER STRUCTURE
Improvement needs to be done to the education
system, and for this purpose more budget needs
to be allocated. The recent trend has shown an
alarming decrease in the budget, so it needs to be
taken care of and the budget needs to be properly
structured at all levels of education taking into
consideration all the physical and mental aspects.
FEW SUGGESTIONS TO IMPROVE
NEP:
Although the policy has done a fantastic job incorporating technology into the Indian
setting, there are several issues that need to be taken into account:-
● According to a government survey performed in November 2019, only 4.4% of
households in rural India have access to computers, compared to 23.4% of
households in urban regions and approximately 14.9% of households in rural
areas with internet connectivity, compared to 42.0% of families in urban and
rural areas.
● The majority of students from economically disadvantaged households currently
have limited or no access to expensive technology, the internet, or even energy.
A Few more areas where NEP can improve:
- Late introduction of English in regional or public schools

- Enforcement of languages needs to be taken care of as there are 22 national languages

in India which could lead to more cultural divisions than unity
- NEP focuses on digital learning but not everyone can afford
smartphones/tablets/laptops, so it proper implementation with handing out proper
facilities to poor students is necessary
Conclusion
While the Policy is a novel and progressive document, acknowledging
the invaluable role of technology in facilitating learning and teaching, it
is essential to develop a coherent plan of action for fostering
technological proficiencies to aid successful engagement with
technology , while providing effective safeguards for data protection
and data privacy.

The ed-tech companies can collaborate with educational institutions as

well as develop customised online platforms/courses to increase reach
among Indian students.
The Policy also presents a significant opporfuture for cooperation
between the various industry stakeholders and regulatory
authorities/educational institutions.

The Policy is mindful that education in the future will involve greater
dematerialisation and digitalisation of content.
