Directions: Give the factual


information based on the following
questions using 5 W and 1 H.

The five characteristics of news
Accuracy – Every statement in news
items; such as name, age, date
must be correct. Quotation of every definite
word or expression or
sentence must be precise in presentation
of the true facts.
Balance – Giving of a fair picture of the
events as it takes place by
putting together of all facts in a manner that
the report conveys the
correct and factual impression.
Objective- Reporting of facts impartially as
they occurred. It means
that the news covers to the consumer
intimated without any personal
bias or any outside influence that would
make it appear anything but
what it is.
Concise and Clear- News should be well-
paced, unified and above
all written so clearly that the meaning of the
story is absolutely plain.
Current – As how the first three letters of
the ‘News’ is spelled – N.E.W!
It stresses the latest event that happened.
