The Way of Living of the Disciples of

Christ in Communion

 ACTS 2: 42-47
 ACTS 4: 32-37
Principles of Living in Communion

No one is living alone. Therefore, living in a

group/community is a necessity. Human is
essentially a social being who needs others.
In communion, each member should share,
encourage, love and care for one another.
Principles of Living in Communion

Communion is formed by the same interest,

leadership, activities, background, vision and
mission.

ACTS 2: 42-47
42They devoted themselves to the teaching
of the apostles and to the communal life, to
the breaking of the bread and to the prayers.
43Awe came upon everyone, and many
wonders and signs were done through the
apostles.
44All who believed were together and had all
things in common;
45they would sell their property and
possessions and divide them among all
according to each one’s need.
46Every day they devoted themselves to
meeting together in the temple area and to
breaking bread in their homes. They ate
their meals with exultation and sincerity of
heart,
47praising God and enjoying favor with all
the people. And every day the Lord added to
their number those who were being saved.
ACTS 4: 32-37
32The community of believers was of one heart
and mind, and no one claimed that any of his
possessions was his own, but they had
everything in common.
33With great power the apostles bore witness to
the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great
favor was accorded them all.
34There was no needy person among them, for
those who owned property or houses would sell
them, bring the proceeds of the sale,
35and put them at the feet of the apostles, and
they were distributed to each according to need.
36Thus Joseph, also named by the apostles
Barnabas (which is translated “son of
encouragement”), a Levite, a Cypriot by birth,
37sold a piece of property that he owned, then
brought the money and put it at the feet of the
apostles
Messages of Acts 2: 42-47 and Acts 4: 32-37

First, the Holy Spirit unites the early

Christians to become persons who believe in
Jesus Christ and live in communion and
fraternity with spirit of one heart-soul.
Second, each member of communion is
equal, none of them feel that they have a
higher position than the others. They share
and care for one another.
Lessons of Acts 2: 42-47 and Acts 4: 32-37

Follow the teachings of the Apostles: In order to live

according to the will of Jesus, we have to listen to the
correct source, namely the teachings of Jesus
Himself which are delivered by the apostles.
Nowadays, the teachings of the Christian faith can be
found in Scripture and Church tradition.
Living in communion: Communion is not just a
group of people, but we, who live in communion,
should respect and care for each other.
Third, leadership is based on a passion to
serve and represent Christ in the midst of
the congregation/community.
Fourth, the presence of Christ in the midst
of the community gives abundance of God’s
grace and love.
Fifth, the living of early Christians is led by
the authority and ministry of the apostles.
Prayer and worship together: Through prayer and
worship, we celebrate the redemption of humanity
done by Jesus Christ (through breaking of bread). In
prayer and worship as well, we give thanks, praise,
intercessions, and prayer to God.
The awareness that we should care for one another and
help those who are in difficulties.
The joy and sincerity are the attitudes that we should
carry out because we have received the Good News
from Jesus and we have to share the Good News we
receive joyfully to others.
