Final Materials –
• Due by Thursday, December 10, at the end of the day on Canvas.
1. *Optional* Revision of Essay 1 and/or Essay 2 with revision note.
Eligible for +15 additional points.
3. Grades being updated on Canvas and can be viewed on Canvas.
3. Course evaluations for my post-tenure review.

Do you have questions? Optional Zoom meetings with me on Monday,


December 7, on Google Doc on Canvas. I can also schedule meetings
before that day. Just let me know!
*Optional* Revision of Essay 1 and/or
Essay 2
• Revise either Essay 1 and/or Essay 2 for up to +15 points on each
assignment. I will essay 2s graded by Sunday (unless you turned yours
in late).
• Reflection at the end of the essay— at least 200 words— about what
you changed in the essay and why you think it’s improved. Please be
specific about your changes.
• What did you focus on in your changes?
• Why do you think this improved your essay?
• How did your essay evolve from the first draft to the final draft? What did you
learn – about yourself and about writing – in the process of writing the essay?
Course Evaluations
• On December 4, you will receive a notification to fill out evaluations.
While these are not required, they do provide me with really
important information and are a part of my post-tenure evaluation.

• Read the assignment sheet

• Return to it as you write.
• Annotate and define.
• Create a checklist from it.
• Ask questions!
Understanding the Instructor’s Values

• Ask questions.
• Observe their reactions.
Seeking Instructor Feedback
Ask the professor if they are willing to read a rough draft or parts of a rough draft.

“Dear Professor _____,


I have been working hard on ___ essay. I have a few specific questions about my draft. Would you be willing to help me with it?”
The Power of Examples
• Ask the professor for examples and/or ask what
successful students have done in the past.
Set Up a Meeting with The Professor
• Meeting is generally preferable to email.
• Be careful with email!

Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute!
• And if you do, give yourself at least a few hours to reset before you
read your essay again.
• Print your essay to proofread!
