STRESS
ACTIVITY #1

Read the following situations. Identify whether they are causes or


effects of stress.
1. You are almost hit by a car.
2. Your house is burning.
3. You passed by a dark street.
4. You saw an angry dog.
5. You are lonely because your house was totally burned.
What I Need to Know
• Stress is a physical reaction of the body. It
not only affects your emotional health, it also
affects your physical health.
SITUATIONS THAT CAUSE STRESS
Have you experienced being late? Did you cram in submitting paper
works before deadline? This are common situations that one can feel
stress. It is important to remember that stress is not a definition of “one
size fits all”. Stress is defined as a physiological and emotional
responses to significant or unexpected change one’s life.

TWO TYPES OF STRESS


Eustress- refers to positive and healthy response of the body
Distress- refers to negative reaction of the body
COMMON INTERNAL STRESSORS
• Chronic worry
• pessimism
• Negative self-talk
• Unrealistic expectation
• Rigid thinking
• All or nothing attitude

COMMON INTERNAL STRESSORS


• Major life changes
• Work or school
• Relationship difficulty
• Financial problem
• Children and Family
Activity #2

Analyze the following situations. Identify whether the stress is


internal or external.
1. You lose your job.
2. Your parents got divorce.
3. You were afraid to tell your parents that you are bisexual.
4. You didn’t have enough money to buy a new cellphone
5. You felt that your classmate is better than you.
APPLICATION
Activity 2. I Feel You!

Each day you have experiences that cause you stress. Study the
situations below and analyze how they affect the persons involved.
Situation #1.
1. Lisa is perspiring so much, so Anna asked her if there is something wrong. Lisa
answered that she needed money so badly because her son is sick and was diagnosed
with dengue. She is planning to borrow money from her employer. Do you think her
employer would let her borrow?

2. Arnold was able to sleep very late last night because his boss gave him a deadline to
finish the reports he asked for, but Arnold knows that its impossible for him to finish
it on time. He is afraid he might lose the job.

ASSIGNMENT

Think of a situation in your life when you got tensed. You were
probably worried, upset, or disappointed at some time in your
life. What is/are your reaction/s to this situation? Write your
answer on clean sheet of paper.
