History Of
Weekenders
 It is created by Only Much Louder (OML) and is among
the largest South Asian arts festivals.
 It began in Pune, Maharashtra, India, as a three-day,
multi-genre, music festival in 2010.
 Since 2012 it has expanded to multiple cities. In 2017,
the lineup added comedy.
 Its title sponsor has been Bacardi since inception.
 The festival is held between October and December,
and hosted in multiple cities alongside its flagship event
in Pune. Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad,
and Shillong have host the festival.
 The lineup includes a mix of, established and
emerging, sub-continental and global artists.

NH7 WEEKENDERS 2019
The 10th edition was held in Jaintia Hills in
Meghalaya (November 1-2), and has taken place
in Pune (November 29-December 1). 

In August 2019, to celebrate 10 editions of the

music festival in Pune, where the first NH7
Weekender was held, pre-sale tickets were put
on sale at the same prices they were sold at in
2010— ₹750 (under 21 season tickets) and
₹1500 (regular season tickets).

Headliners include Opeth, Nick Murphy,

Karnivool, Marty Friedman, Kodaline and
EarthGang.

Weekender have been structured around the
sponsorship model, as opposed to a ticketing
model as followed internationally, where all
revenue is dependent on the number of
people you bring to the festival.

Sponsorships subsidize costs significantly, so

organizers are not dependent on footfalls to
bring in the revenue.

Weekender is the prime example of this

model, where up to 70% of income is from
sponsors and 30% from ticket sales.

Bacardi is the main sponsor of the festival.

Other sponsors for this year includes: Gaana,
radio mirch, 5 star and Tinder

sustainability

NH7 is actually the first festival where they
have piloted end-to-end waste management
project. Each year they keep piloting new
sustainability initiatives.

They have partnered with NGO SWaCH in Pune

and follow a decentralized waste

Attendees were also urged to reuse their cups to

get a discount on their next drink. “They were
unsure whether this would work or not, but over
70 percent people came back for refills”

Plastic straws were banned and drinks were

served in rice husk glasses while the food stalls
used compostable cutlery.

The festival worked with Cupable to provide

drinking water—people could purchase one
recyclable cup and get unlimited water refills for
all festival days.

While there are several music
festivals up and running successful,
few have the legacy status that
Bacardi NH7 Weekender has
attained. A go-to destination of
good times despite all the murkiness
that has reportedly transpired
behind the scenes, the popularity of
the festival remains largely
unhindered.
