What I Need to Know!
• identify clipped words;
• write the original words where the
clipped words originated;
• give the clipped word of a given word;
and
• infer the meaning of clipped words
based on given context clues such as
synonyms, antonyms, word parts, and
others.

is called clipping.
The word automobile can be clipped into the
auto.

Similarly, the word champion can be


clipped into champ.

is shortened to math.
Types of Clipping
2. Foreclipping–
1. Backclipping– Only the last part of 3. Middle
