Chinese Architecture

 Chinese architecture is most known for their wood


structures.
 A structure is not only technically sound but
incorporates a delicate beauty.
 The constructing of tall buildings was a part of Ancient
Chinese Culture that was highly advanced and
developed.
 They used advanced structural ideas like wood
frameworks kept together with dougong brackets using
just one piece of metal.
Chinese Agriculture

 China had a large population and thus many people to feed.


 Because agriculture was so important in China, most of the important
inventions in that period came about in agriculture.
 They created a better plow and farm tools to help increase crop production.
 Invented a collar harness, which allowed horses to pull heavy loads.
 The wheelbarrow made easier for farmers to move heavy loads by hand.
 Watermills used river power to grind grain.

Silk Making

A long time ago before the Shang Dynasty,


Chinese farmers raised many silkworms. They
turned the silkworms’ cocoons into fine silk
cloth. Silk making was a popular industry in
China. Weavers made silk in their workshops
just outside the city walls. The Chinese would
trade this silk to nearby towns.

The Great Wall of China

The Chinese started building the Great Wall of


China during the Qin Dynasty and continued
building it in later dynasties. It was used as a
border and for transportation routes. It was
later enhanced with lookout towers for
lookout.

Early Chinese Writing

The Chinese language is made up of characters.


Educated Chinese know about 4,000 characters.
Various Chinese characters have been traced back
to the late Shang Dynasty about 1200-1050 BC.
Chinese characters where standardized under the
Qin Dynasty. A Chinese character can be one word
or a syllable of a word.

Bronze

The Chinese used their bronze for many different


purposes. They would use as armor and would often
offer more protection than leather armor. They used
their bronze to make fine pottery that they would use to
trade. They sometimes used this pottery in
competitions to see whose was the fanciest. They
would also make bronze objects and put it in the tombs
of important people.

Gunpowder

Gunpowder was invented during the Tang


Dynasty. Gunpowder was accidentally
invented in China while alchemists were
attempting to make a potion of eternal life.
While being invaded by the Mongols, the
Chinese used rockets, guns, cannons, and
explosives.
