Kinds of Primary Sources
• Diaries
- a book in which one keeps a daily record of
events and experiences. It is usually private, especially of
writer’s own experiences, observations, feelings, and
attitudes.
• Journal
- is a record that stores every
details of your life ranging from events,
ideas, feelings, and your daily thoughts
and memories.
• Autobiography
- autobiography is the story of the
life of a person, written by that person himself.
Contextual Analysis
Considers the following :
-The historical context of the source. (time and place it was
written and the situation at the time)
- The author’s background, intent, and authority on the
subject.
- The source’s relevance and meaning today.

The perspectives of the primary sources are to leave a


legacy, preserve culture or tradition, to relay information,
knowledge or art and also to share experience.

It gives insight into the ways in which historical figures


understood or internalized what they experienced.
