PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

The impact of mental health issues are sometimes hidden under what many

educators regard to be unacceptable behaviors in their students. Too often, when

educators witness children misbehaving, their first thought is, "Stop and grow

up!" " They quickly believe that this child's behavior has to be corrected. In

essence, they should be asking themselves, "What is causing this child's

behavior?" This behavior may be out of control for certain youngsters. Students'

mental health issues are significantly linked to their academic performance.

According to research, there is a link between mental health issues and academic

failure.

The problem is that 80 percent of 40 students are recognized with mental

health issues that are impacting their academic performance, particularly in the

midst of this pandemic. When 40 students from the 12 - GAS B students at Pardo

National High School's data were analyzed, it was shown that depression alone

may contribute to decreased academic performance. They discovered that

students with depression had lower high school grade averages, but this was not

the case if other behavioral issues were accounted for. Other variables, such as

the stress of school activities and the difficulty of dealing with the pandemic,

were greater predictors of decreased academic performance. You may argue that

depression increases the chances of students experiencing stress and struggle in

this epidemic because it lowers their academic performance.

SUMMARY, FINDINGS, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Summary

While some study implies that mental health issues may not have an impact

on a student's academic achievement Mcleod et al. (2012), other research has

indicated a clear relationship between mental health issues and academic

performance. Furthermore, we discovered that classification variables might help

in recognizing students' academic problems earlier, which educators could use to

assist students in becoming more successful. However, it is possible that

educational systems lack the necessary strategy and support structures to fulfill

the specific needs of students with poor mental health. Students' mental health is

a concern in the school. Mental health issues go untreated for a variety of

reasons, including a lack of resources. When these issues go untreated, they

develop as these youngsters grow into contributing members of the school. This

rise in young individuals may someday represent a rising public health issue.
Summary of Findings

Mental health issues are becoming more common in schools. However, due to

a variety of challenges, 80 percent of students do not receive appropriate mental

health therapy (e.g. transportation, financial resources, availability of services).

School programs are one approach to assist youngsters get access to therapy.

Conclusion

Mental health problems are not isolated; they are contributing causes to

various physical health issues. The impact is likely to have been underestimated

due to a lack of understanding of the relationship between mental illness and

other health issues. Incorporating social emotional learning may be the most

effective way for schools to address student mental health. Treatment provided

in a school context may assist to minimize access obstacles that occur in clinical

and private settings. SEL programs also provide a cost-effective approach for

school districts to contribute resources because their present personnel can

facilitate the program. However, thorough training and preparation of the

employees is critical since the program will only be successful if it is

implemented successfully.
Recommendations

Kelcher et al. (2019) discovered that kids with IEPs who engaged in school-based

mental health counseling services had improved mental health and academic

performance, as well as a substantial increase in school attendance. Their

research was carried out over a five-week period with 49 individuals from two

distinct schools. Although the sample size and length of the study are limited,

their conclusions are still noteworthy. Given that the session was just five weeks

long, it's legitimate to ask if the improvements will last. In comparison, Walter et

al. (2019) discovered that students got an average of 26 sessions.
