EXTINCTION IN C

PERU D

F
Introduction A

Since life emerged on Earth, its fauna has been

transformed many times. For thousands of years B

and for various reasons, there have been five

major extinctions of the species that have
C
populated the Earth: they are known as the five
mass extinctions. Currently, and due to the action
of human beings, the planet is on the verge of D
what scientists call the Sixth Great Extinction.

F
Characteristic :
Andean cat It lives in the Cordillera de los Andes between 300
A

(Leopardus jacobita) and 4,800 meters above sea level. Its size and
appearance is similar to a domestic cat, but the
B
difference is in its tail, since it is much wider, larger
and tabby-looking.

C
Dangers towards the animal:
They are the degradation and loss of their habitat
due to activities such as mining, as well as hunting D
for different reasons and the irresponsible possession
of pets.
E
Solutions:
The idea is to generate knowledge about the
biology and ecology of the species and at the F
same time work together with local communities.
Characteristic
Oso de Anteojos
A
Small in size and difficult to forget face, since it has
a white or pearl mask that gives the impression of
(Tremarctos ornatus) being glasses. Omnivorous, but with a mostly
B
vegetarian diet, this bear is present in the Andes
Mountains.

C
Dangers towards the animal:
It is threatened several times, due to the destruction
of its habitat, excessive hunting by unscrupulous D
hunters and the decrease in its food supply.

E
Solutions:
In each of the countries where it still lives, efforts
are being made for its conservation and to reduce F
threats.
Characteristic
El huapo Colorado It is a monkey that lives only in the Amazonian
A

(Cacajao calvus) plain of Peru, north of the Amazon River. It is

characterized by having the entire face, lacking hair
B
and a red color that stands out and contrasts with
the rest of the body, which has thick brown fur.

C
Dangers towards the animal:
It is threatened, and is in danger of extinction. It is a
victim of poachers, and worse still, of the activities D
of the logging industry that is taking away their
habitat.
E
Solutions:
Protect the forests that are their habitat, promote
the creation of a biological corridor; control of F
illegal logging and land trafficking.
